Some stuff about DeviantArt
Dec. 14th, 2011 05:42 amLess than a year ago, I suggested that DragonRider3 give me a cake badge after finding out on my blog that my birthday had passed several weeks earlier. Just the other night, I found out that its real purpose (for creation, that is) was to celebrate DeviantArt's 10th birthday, and they're actually supposed to be given and collected similar to llama badges (hence the different appearances).
Speaking of badges, the fact that there exists a whole variety of them makes them that much more interesting, even though they don't serve any real purpose. Llama badges can only be given by any given member to any given fellow member, and can also be requested in exchange for points (usually one). Cake badges can be given multiple times to the same recipient from the same giver, but cost 80 points apiece. Certain other badges can only be won as prizes in contests (most of which don't interest me) or by fulfilling certain staff positions. And there's also the birthDAy '10 badge, also created for the site's 10th anniversary, which can be obtained by putting a puzzle together.
And then, there's the paranoid badge. This one, I don't get. Or rather, why some members don't have one, when you can just obtain one for free, no strings attached. I mean, putting a puzzle together is a rather simple task, but still a task nonetheless. For this, there just aren't any prerequisites.
Well, since it was free, I figured I might as well just take one. However, if I get at least two more badge varieties, this one will be bumped out of "featured" in favor of something else.

In other news, it doesn't seem too long until Job Offers has a total of 100 members (even non-joining watchers notwithstanding). When that happens, I plan on doing something to commemorate. One idea I've had in mind would be to give a llama badge (or one point) to each member that had joined. Another I had would be to give the 100th member the honor of being given a task upfront for whatever he charges for it, with the task fitting in with what he specializes in. (That would be if I deem his art style decent, if the prices aren't too high, and if he actually takes commissions.)
Other ideas might come to mind, and I am open to any suggestions that anyone might have. However, giving an outright bonus to that person would be out of the question. Wouldn't be fair to those who I had initially invited, and especially Chelle, DragonRider3, and PlottingYourDemise, whom I invited just from having known them beforehand. Might do so with the 1000th and 2000th members, though.

Finally, probably due to a glitch, I've noticed a comment in Job Offers hours before receiving the respective notice in my messages. Of course, I hid it, because the group is not meant for advertising your prices or asking people to commission you.
