I've just realized something...
Dec. 16th, 2011 05:49 amAll those DeviantArt points I've spent money on? It's like the equivalent of buying gift cards for my own use. All I've been doing was limiting a few bucks to DeviantArt. I've even told people before that I will only do business with anyone who accepts points, but without Job Offers, that might've been for the better, lest I make too many deals with people while looking through Anime Commissions.
So far, everything I've already paid for related to dA over the past year, plus a few commissions I still have pending, is about to amount to over $200. All those points I earned by giving llama badges? Only managed to save a little over $11. It's like picking up dropped change; it gets you nowhere fast. The points I've had up until last night (and it's a good thing Chelle decided to refund me)? Used them to pay in advance for two of said commissions.
So, what would be the purpose of points and gift cards? To act as a medium gift between regular money and actual gifts. They make it easier for someone to treat themselves to something than if that person were to receive cash or checks.
Doesn't really help that I still have yet to find work. But anyway, with multiple commissions that still have yet to be started, I'm not going to make any commission requests right now. I might ask how far each of them have gone after I beat Mother 3 (which I've been playing sparingly these days). All further commission requests will be placed on Point Commissioners and Job Offers, and whoever decides to take them up, I'll give them whatever they'd like for their work.
Would rather have waited until the 29th of this month, but sometimes, one can't help when something occurs to them if it's at random. I suppose one could also say that this be my New Year's resolution come half a month early, although we hardly ever make those to begin with.

Date: 2019-07-15 07:04 pm (UTC)Wow, that reminds me of my mom who also easily loses track of her spendings. Keeping monthly track might help?
The only real benefit of points is that it's apparently easier to find underpriced artists in this field (http://mystic-marbles.deviantart.com/journal/Your-Point-Commissions-are-Worth-More-Than-That-216832619).
