First of all, I finally got a response from CDJapan, concerning my account. Now all I need to do (hopefully) is to settle it with my credit card issuer.

Also, I've started watching All My Children two nights ago. The first time I ever saw part of an episode was at the hospital, where my mom works. If there's anything interesting about it, it's a serious show that shares the same kind of lighting as sitcoms such as The Nanny and Home Improvement. If it were funny, it would be the kind of show that comes with a laughtrack.

Last night during dinner, our conversation was about humor:

(Beginning of conversation)

"Did Matt Groening just improve his talent, or did expectations go up?" Brian started.

"Expectations have gone up," Dad answered.

"The other day, me and Dad complained to eachother about how Peanuts never was very funny," I joined in.

"It isn't. But the guy who made them was a millionaire," Dad said. "But you gotta understand that that was made in the 50's."

"I mean, who would find Lucy being mean to everyone as funny?"

"I know, but she's the funniest character in the comic strip. The rest of the characters are kind of lame. Humor is about being mean. Y'know, like Itchy and Scratchy, Bart Simpson, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, Popeye. Of course, it's not funny in real life."

"I know, but in Peanuts, they don't even try to make humor out of Lucy. They just assume that it's already funny as it is."

(More dialogue about humor in general)

Dad continued. "If you look at Peanuts, Lulu, (some other old shows), they were funny when they were made, but they're rather lame nowadays."

"Look at Airplane," I commented.

"I know. Then again, Airplane was meant to be stupid, but they're also making fun of a movie called Airport."

"I've noticed that the Japanese don't have much of a talent for humor as Americans have."

Dad then started briefly talking about how the Japanese are taught not to smile. He told us that it might have something to do with obedience.

"That's why you can have sumo wrestling, and no one cracks up," he said along the way."

I excused myself shortly afterwards.
