dmxratedReformatted both my entries from the 11th so that they're easier to read. Jake complained the other day that they were hard to read, although he proceeded to read them anyway and offered to write a better plot structure.

Returned disk 1 of Melody of Oblivion, and got eight other anime that have been held for me.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Sqweebs plans on hosting I Was Kagami Hiiragi the way it was originally written. I already had my mind made up not to read Cries Unheard ever again, interesting as it may be all issues aside, but having heard that left me wondering how someone who drops references to the events of the anime (evidence of their familiarity of it) could just up and decide that the school year in Japan matches that in America despite all evidence to the contrary.
During a convo I had with Jake the other day, the issue of closure (as the reason why I desperately want to read the antagonists' actual fates) came up. He suggested that I write it out myself, and Mom agreed when I showed her the convo. I told them that while I do try to imagine it myself, even actually writing things out just feels cheap as a substitute for the real thing.
As of yesterday, I actually considered starting the whole story over myself, should Blood take too long to come back to it, and even brought such an idea up with Sqweebs (who seemed to like the idea). Granted, it's not my goal to fix up every story on Earth that's so poorly written, but since this is one that's been giving me issues for months now, I think writing the ending out might not be enough, especially since we're not gonna know what kinds of twists Blood would come up with until then if he were still active.
Gonna need time to sort out what other issues there are with the story, and to talk about how to re-plan everything and plan out where the story goes from where it currently is.

Date: 2019-07-17 12:39 pm (UTC)I was gonna suggest a reimagining instead of a rewrite, but if writing your own ending doesn't work for you, that probably won't either. So I'll just ask, would something massive and involved like this really end the obsession?

Date: 2019-07-17 12:40 pm (UTC)As to whether I think something this involved would really end it... Well, we both know that my obsession with it hasn't quite gone away on its own so far. However, the amount of work involved is exactly one of the reasons why I don't intend to actually get started right away. I'll just give it a while longer to see whether or not either Blood continues with it or I find myself not even thinking about it at all at that point.

I don't suppose that's what you meant, though, is it?

Date: 2019-07-17 12:41 pm (UTC)In the context of fanfic, rewriting is kinda like, you have the same story and alter things to tell the story better. Still has the same concepts, tone, characters, twists, outcome, but told with a better structure, language and other techniques. Rewriting is basically what you do whenever you edit your own stuff to be more presentable. Same story, but with different writing.
Reimagining is more like taking the same concepts, characters, concepts, twists and fundamentally altering them, thus ending up with a very different story. You're not so much rewriting something as you're making a new thing with old bricks. There aren't identical scenes and you're not gonna be brought before the mods over it.
Usually on ff.net I see people use rewriting for both purposes, but I prefer to use the two different ones cause it's handy to have a distinction.
