So much discussion with Brian yesterday about different things, especially Starbound.

Well, before that but after coming home from the gym with Dad, I finally got around to testing that PS2 after having neglected it for several days after it arrived. So far, the system works, but I only played that game briefly before realizing how awkward the controller that came with it is to use, with some loose directional buttons and a slippery left analog stick.

Brian and Marie both took until around ten to wake up, as usual. He was set to eat breakfast at one of the local bagel stores, and I was set to come with him, but not before setting him up with my entries from the 10th and 11th.

Not gonna cover everything we talked about on the ways both there and back home. However, one point he made was that a particular fanfic is not the best material for ironic distance, since that can get lost there. Basically, he specified that I try to parody more universal issues such as capitalism (he cited this movie called They Live, and I mentioned it as a major theme of Mother 3).

He had also correctly inferred Lucky Star to consist mostly of jokes consisting of mundane, everyday events and the twists that make them interesting to follow along with (something I also enjoy talking about from my own life, which is why I keep this blog). Earthbound, meanwhile, is one of those things that takes reality, and skews it just enough so that it still resembles an everyday setting even with any weirdness thrown in (something which Lucky Star itself did even during the source anime (via the staff's antics of Anime Tenchou and a one-time appearance of the ghost of Kanata Izumi), to say nothing of certain spinoffs).

From there, he had suggested I make a point of incorporating the slice-of-life stuff that Lucky Star had to offer into each chapter whenever possible, which I believe I managed so far (such as Tsukasa's interactions with a cat in chapter 4 and the party's visit to Minami's house in 5), and also not to create too much a sense of urgency. That much to start with, and yeah, it's obvious enough that Earthbound and EB0 (unlike Mother 3) were two of those games that make you a point of taking time to enjoy your surroundings, and that's exactly why I more-or-less rejected Chelle's attempt at a plot outline a few years ago. (This will not be the case when the party has to leave Japan to pursue Ivo and save Akira, but then again, nor was it when Ness and co. had to raid the Stonehenge base to save Apple Kid and certain others, which is exactly what my own idea there is based on.)

Some time after coming home, I wrote in detail what my actual plan is regarding the Cibus project. Basically, Puella Magi Madoka Magica is something I was planning for Marie to watch in order to understand both Cibus Esculentus Madoka Magica and Puella Magi Kazumi Magica, before we discuss any possible events for Cibus Esculentus Kazumi/Michiru Magica. She said that she's not going to watch the whole Madoka anime or read all of Kazumi Magica, and had also rejected the idea of showing her any episode/chapter summaries on Wikipedia or Puella Magi Wiki (later citing (to Mom, when she asked why I'm putting her through it and I mentioned that alternative) that the names are so weird for her that she wouldn't be able to keep track of who's who). We managed to watch the first episode, but she mentioned later (during a ride to Moe's, next section) that, to begin with, what she really offered help with was stuff like style and composition.

-----

Had two coupons for Moe's for a few weeks, and we ended up going there for "lunch" at around 3:25. Put in quotes, because I normally eat lunch at 10, but then again, that's around the time that they get up and have breakfast; I ended up counting what I had also as dinner. (Didn't go hungry, though, because I did have a cookie at the bagel place and a pear later on.) Asked if we could go to the one down the street from the bank, since I currently have over $200 in my wallet, but they told me that the two places are actual much further away than I might have noticed day before Easter and might close by the time we get there from Moe's. (Couldn't go there first, because Marie was already starving by that point.)

Before we left, I made a point of showing Brian the cut under my first 10/23 entry, along with a certain post on the Lucky Star forum about pocket-weirdness in Luckyverse (since that had already come up in the morning; here's the post by itself, instead of the whole thread). We ended up talking mostly about the former, and he said that I'm too heavily invested in logistics, and that I should just get on with chapter 6 already.

Even though I did have an idea for that chapter's events even upon completing 5, it is true that I tend to need breaks between chapters, and there was a lot of other things that kept me busy since then. I told Marie about Brian's proposal of letting me spend some time at his place over the holidays, and she asked why I didn't try drawing inspiration from my stay there a year ago; I answered that it was because I was already busy trying to focus on that lemon I had promised to Jake in consolation for some lost belongings. That was just for that week and the next few.

In any case, even though she won't likely be able to help much with storybuilding, Marie did agree at least to read the aforementioned entry and see what she makes of that and if she could come up with any methods with which to gather ideas.

Coming home from the restaurant, and then during an errand all three of us took to Stop 'n' Shop, that situation between me and bloodscorpion4ever came up between me and Brian. Long discussion short, he does commend me for seeking to reconcile with that guy, but I shouldn't make a life goal out of it. He had also mentioned how easy it is to piss someone off about something that doesn't pertain (at least not directly) to the actual subject matter of any work of theirs, but I did make a point of mentioning the successful (though accidental) reconciliation between me and Jake regarding Parasitic Trio (something which I also described to Mom earlier on) and how much more successfully I had approached Acsuperman about the same subject by being less in-his-face than I realize in hindsight I was with Blood.

Brian did say that he already read through those exchange plans, one of various things I had emailed both him and Marie, but did agree to look in particular over a boldfaced three-paragraph sidenote I had included in it, also dealing with something involving Starbound.

Didn't get around to either showing him that or showing Marie that cut yet. The three of us ended up watching some documentary with Dad about various pilots from World War I, and I was getting tired even before it ended. Well, still got today and tomorrow before they both go home, and calling off anything Madoka-related w/ Marie also helps.

(Also have a convo from with Jake to show Brian, regarding some updates I recently made to the game mechanics file, particularly about Robin in two different places. Will be sure to read over both those files before showing him what's relevant.)
