I just watched two episodes of Family Guy today, titled "Death Lives" and "Lethal Weapons." Right now, I'm just going to explain the plot of the latter episode; you can find summaries of all the episodes on TV Tome.

It's autumn, and the town of Quahog swarms with tourists from New York. The Griffins aren't exactly crazy about New Yorkers taking up space in their homeland. After Lois recalls taking a karate class, she uses her skills to drive them away from Quahog. Soon enough, she gets carried away and becomes violent to Peter. The next morning, Peter ends up eating Stewie's graham crackers, and Stewie assaults him. This prompts Lois to bring him to a psychologist's office, and the psychologist recommends having a family anger-management session. Just when everything is about to be settled, Brian confesses that the bottle of pills he offered to the parents during the meeting were really sugar pills. Thus, it all falls apart, and the whole family breaks into three separate fights: Lois vs Peter, Chris vs Meg, and Stewie vs Brian. After everyone settles down, Lois and Peter conclude that everyone's violent behavior was coming from the TV.

You wanna know what would've completed that episode? It would've been if the show showed us that they happened to be watching Celebrity Deathmatch, with or without changing the animation, and Johnny Gomez says his usual closing motto, "Good fight, good night!"

Also, something similar happened the other day in All My Children, involving medication, although I would assume that this is normal for that show:

Greenlee confesses to Ryan that she became pregnant, even though he said previously insisted that he never wanted to have children. He takes out a bottle of pills, and Greenlee snatches it from him. He explains that he needs them to control his anger, but she tells him that they're fake and that he needs to control his own emotions. He then breaks down by throwing something against a wall and tipping a bookcase down. After this incident, he left to commit suicide so that Greenlee wouldn't suffer from his abuse.

Previously, I wrote an entry titled "Humor and Drama," dealing with meanness, or at least tension, in comedy. Well, that was an example of said tension in something serious.
