Had a bit of a misunderstanding with Brian yesterday, which involved him suggesting I abort Unwilling Service.

To begin with, he's been really into Tart Magica ever since I first presented all three series I had brought up here with me. He read the entirety of volume 1 two days ago, and we went on yesterday morning to discuss the idea of revamping that whole series for the Cibus project, which we will probably figure out once he finishes reading the whole series.

I would go on to suggest in an email after he went back to bed, the idea of having him read Unwilling Service at some point while blanking out the particularly objectionable bits. Upon getting back to me (in person before leaving for work), he said that wouldn't help if they still do happen, and some stuff about the concept of the patriarchy that I'm already familiar with. That's all one thing, but he also said stuff about how the story itself is not worth pursuing because it's mostly about certain taboo interests of mine that most people would rather not read about.

I later wrote another email, covering a whole bunch of points such as how everything I create or commission for is primarily for myself and how the art of writing, enjoyable as it may be, is not as important as a finished product. His response to that was rather disparaging, but we both agreed to discuss things more reasonably after dinner.

While eating out at Tikki Masala, he suggested that I try something out called hypnogagia, which involves staying awake when one is falling alseep and writing then. I told him that there are mental images that I struggle all the time to keep out of my mind, would not like to risk letting in by letting my guard down, and that is probably something I'll name a few examples of in an email to both him and Chelle (also to see if maybe it's an autistic thing).

I also showed him a reply email I had drafted up when we returned to the apartment. He conceded to accept my pursuit of Unwilling Service, and also told me that he never actually meant for me to beat my head against a wall just to come up with ideas. He even had acknowledged while we were eating, how different people have different strengths, but he also said that generating ideas actually takes practice.

(Truth be told, I actually had tried that before, deriving individual ideas just randomly from Sailor Moon, Super Valis IV, or Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, back when my mind was on what would I would eventually call Monster Collection Chronicles, but it just felt kinda lame compared to when there's an actual basis or reason for picking something out. Originally, that was the reason I'd go on to read various Earthbound fanfics (substituting for Mon Colle Knights, which still has very few stories even today), just for an actual pool from which to pick out different ideas to experiment with.)

(In fact, having just said that, can't guarantee it will work, but maybe I'll try my hand at that again, just to see if it works for Starbound, when I'm less busy with Unwilling Service. Would still appreciate Brian's efforts to come up with more than a few things at a time for me to actually process and then write, though.)
