Went with Mom down Long Island Avenue yesterday morning to clean up on the sides of the road, now that Dad's gotten back into that these past few days.

She and I went to Riverhead later to buy some new sneakers for me, and we also ate lunch out at Panera Bread, which Mom meant to treat me to the other day while shopping at the Costco store there. Got myself a steak-cheddar panini, some kind of large cookie, and a cup of coffee; Mom ordered some tomato soup with a few croutons in it.

-----

Before we headed down LIA, Mom and I had a rather confusing conversation in the morning, about researching other countries starting with Great Britain. For starters, I do recall reading Culture Shock! Japan while writing chapter 2 of Starbound, but that was like the only book that proved worthwhile for my purposes. England's book in the same series specifically covers London, not the country itself, and is also too out of date (1991), and finding the right books otherwise might be rather tricky. I also know they're not going to cover every facet of life in any given country, but I'd probably be able to find people on Upwork who might be willing to iron out anything culturally inaccurate.

Hard to explain, so here's what this eventually led up to: After Mom came home from the gym (I had a nap after coming home from the outlets and staying up to wake Mom up while she took one first), I decided to begin by watching one episode of Lucky Star a day with her. Went on afterwards to write down my actual plans into my notebook to show her, and among them, rather ironically, I now have a pretty good reason to play Earthbound. (Yes, the localized version of Mother 2. I wasn't particularly satisfied even in general with how last year's playthrough panned out, along with ActivePresenter having turned out to record the video and audio slightly out of sync.)

Here's the deal overall:

The purpose of watching Lucky Star itself, is to show Mom its kind of humor and provide context for Starbound, which I will have her read afterwards. Once she reads what I have of Starbound, my planned recording of Earthbound will be next, in order to demonstrate that Starbound is not so much a recreational trip around the world, but some sort of mission that will involve all manner of tasks in-between each primary event of the party's main objective.

Of what's written already, most gags revolve around the girls' new hairstyles, but a few others revolve around recurring things like Mondo's particular mannerisms or Konata's continued antagonism of Kagami; certain individual ones include Rokuna's subpar cooking (from Mon Colle Knights) becoming Kagami's reason for allowing Tsukasa to come with them (after previously suggesting she stay home) and Tsukasa's antics with a cat when the girls visit a pet store for the sake of Kagami's goldfish. Episode 21 of the anime heavily involves a field trip to Kyoto, which in turn involves various hijinx that can only happen there, and that should set the example for everywhere the party goes in Starbound, treating it all as naturally as Yoshimizu himself was able to pull off by setting LS on home turf. Stereotypical as Earthbound might be, with Starbound, I would like to aim for some sort of deconstruction of what people normally think of when they think of other parts of the world, by including more mundane locales and even obscure countries themselves (for example, why do people tend to think of Mexico and Brazil instead of Spain and Portugal when thinking of their respective languages?), and having everyone act as naturally as they do in LS. (In other words, let's remember that this is not The Simpsons.)

I know Mom won't actually be able to provide content suggestions for the story itself, but I'm hoping she could at least help me explain on Upwork what I'm actually looking for and pinpoint what kinds of books and info to look for for each place visited.

(As an aside, I should probably also show her someone else's footage of Earthbound Zero's version of Magicant at some point, since Earthbound's version is nothing like that and is only visited after the last spot to conquer.)

In case this affects anything later, I have moved back to the llama trade group as my default entry page to deviantArt. Do not need to see any more Fakemon to remind me of a certain fic I'd like nothing to do with right now. (For the record, though, I've been doing much better for five days straight now, ever since deciding just to leave that rant to rest even before Jake last got back to me.)
