Right now, I am seriously considering hiring a full-fledged co-writer for Unwilling Service, after having lost Jake, so as to turn it into an actual expansion of the games' events instead of just a retelling with a gimmick tacked on, much like Pokemon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire to the original Ruby and Sapphire w/ certain concepts previously introduced in X/Y. I'll still be in charge of alpha-writing some chapters, but I make no secret of my priority of a finished product over the process of writing. My own drafts of each chapter to date felt rewarding enough for what I expected of them before having Jake flesh them out, but that's obviously not gonna be the case with every chapter to come, and especially with Jimmy's next-planned chapter in particular.

It is true that the fic itself was going to be my way of re-experiencing the games' events on my terms, but really, said events themselves were mainly a template, and the rules I laid out before getting started, which I had strayed from more than a few times for the sake of creativity, were mainly just a set of guidelines. Whoever I hire will probably be free to do as they wish, once I explain to them what really matters (mostly actual plot points).

Right now, I am giving Michael until I get an automatic refund to show me what he has so far. If he fails to get back to me, I will ask Jason if he is still available before giving him May to work on. My focus with Brian is still going to be on Starbound, and I will give him that Crystal guide next time we see eachother before we discuss Team Rocket's role in Johto.

-----

Yesterday being my birthday, Mom stayed home from work, and she and Dad handed me my presents in the morning. I told them that I thought we were going to celebrate when Brian's here with us, but Mom told me that he might actually come over a day or so after she and Dad leave.

This also made things awkward, because I was still in the middle of recording Earthbound, had Mother planned to come back to afterwards for before I go up to see Brian (in case I still do), and wouldn't be able just to drop everything to play something else.

-----

Had some errands to run in the afternoon.

First and most importantly, an appointment w/ Dr. Mattimoe, to discuss something he described as Morton's neuroma that I've had for more than a month now.

Mom also had some shopping to do at a nearby Walmart and Best Market. I went with her to the former, but she dropped me off at Smith Haven Mall before hitting the latter.

Went to f.y.e. just to check for Mitsuboshi Colors. Wasn't there, and I had to walk around for a bit to find Barnes & Noble. Offhand, I then noticed this store called Newbury Comics that was having a buy-one-get-one-50%-off sale for manga and graphic novels, went in to see what was there, and wound up buying volumes 2 and 3 of Non Non Biyori for $21.16.

Made my way over then to B&N, and read a few chapters of Hatsune Mix before Mom came to pick me up.

As planned beforehand, we left the mall, and ate dinner at a Panera Bread restaurant within the same parking lot. I ordered an Italian, but Mom said she wasn't feeling too hungry.

On the way home, Mom commented on how much warmer and nicer it was the day she and Dad brought me home in 1986. I told her that this current type of weather at this time of year is actually something that comes up in an upcoming episode of Lucky Star (15 to be exact; we just watched 10 two days ago):

Miyuki: I heard somewhere that the average temperature in March is basically the same as December's. And April's average temperature is similar to November's.
Tsukasa: Wow, if this was November or December, I'd be piling on the layers.
Kagami: Yeah. And in March and April, you never seem to have enough layers on.

During our time out, I eventually decided that Earthbound is basically a moot point by now. At a rate of one LS episode per day, and with fourteen EB clips all preceding Moonside, by the time we watch everything, Brian will probably already have helped me place a finger on what it is I will be looking for for Starbound. (We can still continue watching Lucky Star, though, just to enjoy it, and I might still let Mom read Starbound once we're all done with that.)

Mom had gotten an assortment of pastries from Best Market before picking me up from the mall. I waited for Dad to have dinner for himself before we'd celebrate my birthday.

Started by opening my presents, one of which was indeed a Switch. The other gift, that obviously being the games, turned out to be Disgaea 5 Complete, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Probably gonna start today with Disgaea 5 for now, but I am definitely gonna buy a player's guide for the Zelda game. Whether I come back to Mother or just continue with SMO after beating D5 will depend on whether it's still feasible or not for Brian to have me over before he comes here.
