dmxratedRecently, I decided I should try something new and fresh, given how daunting a task THIS IS IT! was, and decided upon Marenian Tavern Story: Patty and the Hungry God once I'd get the ball rolling again on Upwork.
Today, I gave it a try, and the save system turns out to be bullshit.
For starters, I don't like the idea of jewels, an in-game currency, being shared between save files, but it does help to have found out about that on the wiki.
But anyway, after clearing the first dungeon once, I try to cook one of everything I have ingredients for, but then find out that I'm running out of ingredients for some things down the list. No surprise there, but I'd have to leave the cooking menu before saving, and this is one of those situations where I would not save before restarting the game, yet my ingredients are gone and what I cooked up is still there, so now I have to start over and re-do Pecora Plains before sorting out some new cooking results.
Can't remember whether I saved or not after cooking everything "properly" the first time, but I did not see any of my discovered recipes when I turned the game off and came back to it. How ironic, that it does the exact opposite of what it did to lead me to start over.
Did the process over, and I'll bet it only saved then because I proceeded then to open up the shop, from which I sold five ears of boiled corn, which reverted itself after I turned the game off. At first, I wondered if I was supposed to turn the Switch itself all the way off instead of just resetting it, but the same thing happened.
And yet, the game actually registered that I did some business at all. I can tell, because I got a jewel you're supposed to earn for having done so four times.
Is this some kind of bug? I am going to ask on Reddit what's going on, and if I ever do come back to this game, it will likely be under priority IV.
(I guess this is also a good thing, though. So far, I've already managed to recharge myself for food icons, and I still have three more weeks left on Funimation, plus Wanikani to continue and a new MMZ clip to look over.)
