Brian came home two nights ago, and Emily ended up coming with him after all.

For Christmas, I finally got my new computer, and it's a good thing we agreed upon that, what with some malware now plaguing my previous one. I have also agreed to check out Unity, now that that's finally feasible, although what I have seen so far is somewhat confusing and I'll need his help whenever he's available to figure out what's what.

Mom and I had put together some calendars of The Far Side Mix-Up, with the corresponding cartoons on one day of its respective month to the ones we picked out of my own thing, for Brian, Marie, and Dad each.

Emily said that she has something for me at her parents' house, from before her mother fell ill. For her, though, I bundled a Target gift card inside a card Mom and I found that says the following sung by a cartoon duck, while looking for a different card I had previously seen back at Target (with a cat saying "Meowy Christmas!", which I already thought up for our own cat to say).

Jingle bells, shopping smells, parking is a pain,
Christmas carols at the mall are stuck inside my brain, so,
poured some wine, went online, surfed till fingers bled,
then decided you should choose your Christmas gift instead.

And for Mom, I had Dad drive me to Stop & Shop the other day to buy a member card that she keeps claiming to "forget". Originally, I was gonna buy her some new balls for our dryer, but she ended up getting some of those herself. (While I was down there, I also asked Dad to let me eat lunch out, specifying Cafe Gia when he asked, but I was actually half an hour early there, went to Subway instead, and saw a limited-time ad for caramel brownie cookies, a few of which I then took home.)

Showed Brian what I previously wrote regarding Starbound, following something I then posted to Reddit. What he had mostly to say was not to worry about maintaining the same standards while still having stuff created, but when I actually have everything in place, and not to worry about all the minuscule details about what actually existed where in such a bygone era, as long as everything in question existed at all back then.

He also said that I might simply need to take a break from Starbound, and in fact, I have considered the possibility of returning to that. In all likelihood, I would look for new people to commission for a completely new plot with just some of the basics remaining. It's also possible that I might come back to or even reboot the fic one day, seeing how I still find myself reminiscing on what had already happened there.

As for my lack of writing focus, he also said that one of my main problems is that I spend more time than I should on video games, even though some time would still be necessary in order to plan things out for creating one. I was not surprised to hear that from him, but one of the things that dragged THIS IS IT! out for so long is likely no coincidence with the idea I came up with for a series of randomization walkthroughs, which I conceived as a side-project but now consider a goal unto itself.

(The problem I failed to foresee is that, in case anyone actually would find the concept interesting, I would need to make adjustments to my gameplay rules in order to meet them halfway, with the way I shopped in most games being not only the first of those but the reason I revised my regular Mother 3 walkthrough that I still have yet to print up (but might as well hold off on now until I write up its randomization one and update it alongside). Each time I noticed something off (or for some other reason in certain cases), I aborted the playthrough, and such a pattern would leave me feeling increasingly demoralized after thinking each time that I would get things right then and beat something once and for all. That's why it eventually dawned on me to return to Angry Birds, something much simpler than an RPG and that I could pace myself much more easily with, which would've also helped much better than Getter Love!!, Kiratto Kaiketsu!, and Food Fantasy back in relation to chapters 6 and 7 of Starbound, shortly before finishing TII; and also why I allowed myself multiple back-to-back attempts each with Marenian Tavern Story and Trails in the Sky after finishing. It came as no surprise by that point to see how much trial and error would really be involved towards such a goal as I have now.)

Brian and Emily are going back to Boston tomorrow. Brian explained to me last night that the reason they stayed over for so many months this past year is because Google allowed them to work at home, but now, they have a much nicer apartment than before, in a much nicer place than Jamaica Plain.
