Tried to hire Gabriel, my new contractor for Earthbound Zero, yesterday morning, but the process failed due to an error. Checked my bank statement to see if any money was taken out of my account, and the Escrow deposit was specified as pending.

Called the bank, and not only does it turn out to be on hold until tomorrow, but Dad overheard me specifying my social security number and came in, assuming it was a scammer. I cleared things up for him, but shortly after I got off the phone, he started asking me what that call was all about, and then about what kind of business I was doing on Upwork. I was just barely able to shut it down when he started asking what I was paying for; not sure how I could possibly explain to him why I'd pay $150 to have a game modded, something even Mom can barely wrap her head around.

Mom and I were going to have a walk on Smith Point yesterday afternoon, but halfway there, the tire light lit up, and we had to stop somewhere to inspect the tires before just heading home before one of them loses all its air. She had to bring the car somewhere to get the tire replaced, and I spent at least the next half hour distributing some horse manure around, something she had me on these past few days now.

As for Disgaea, I have decided yesterday to aim with Laharl for a Galaxy Mage, which requires all lower-tier Mages at various levels. Was able to afford a Good-For-Nothing Red Mage and an Average Blue Mage for a total of 51 mana, and there wasn't much left to procure of 1,000 mana for a Distinguished Green Mage.

I was only able to reach Demon Rank 3 with him after recruiting the Green Mage, but it didn't take long for all three basic Mages to reach level 5, after which I passed Laharl another promotion exam with some Cotton Candy (Rare) that I obtained in the Item World. Still going to grind another 1,500 normally for a Distinguished Star Mage.

This morning, I had enough mana for him to propose Increase Counterattack. Would have tried the promotion exam again if I had selected anything more expensive.

That said, I did have to pass the bill by force, and managed to by distracting one senator with my Prinnies and Hoggmeiser while calculating the exact throwing distance with different combinations with everyone else before tossing other senators onto the strongest one who voted aye. Would've been fun to have someone weak enough just to kill at my level, though.

In any case, the fact that he was able to accrue over 300 mana in such a short time in the first place should be a pretty good sign. Being able to counterattack more, and now even while on guard*, should also help him to recuperate a little mana every now and then, either by killing more enemies in counters or by being able to guard in case someone uses a special attack instead of hoping for a normal one.

(*Guarding deducts two counter opportunities per turn, while most other actions, save for item usage or throwing things, deduct one. Laharl normally has two per turn, and now has three, and only normal attacks can trigger counters.)

(And, stuff like this is exactly how this game can get distracting for me. This is the kind of thing I constantly look forward to.)
