Jun. 16th, 2024 06:29 amTwo years ago, my parents and I reminisced on stuff we used to watch as kids. At one point, Mom recounted Nancy mentioning what her younger kids were into, to which she had responded "Yeah, Bananas In Pajamas is not happening in this house."
Just the other day when we were leaving Costco, Mom showed me a new pack of dryer balls she found, which featured Sharry and Lamb Chop from Lamb Chop's Sing-Along on the packaging. I commented on that, and she asked me if I remember that show.
Just yesterday when she drove me to work, I commented how ironic it is that she supposedly would not have let us watch that show if we kids were years older. She clarified the difference to be that shows like Bananas or Teletubbies do not really give kids stuff to think about, rather than basically talking at them.
(Even though she still let us watch Arthur when I, the oldest child, was eleven (before I hit middle school and left the house too early to see that anymore), I would also chalk part of such confusion up to something I read in a certain book before.)
(In general, whenever it comes up, she also claims that she did not let us kids watch Barney & Friends, but I remember seeing that all the time when we were little, a favorite particularly of Marie's, and there is even one song she likes to sing once in a while that comes specifically from that.)

Just ten minutes before my shift was scheduled to end, I noticed a truck selling shaved ice. Got myself some blue raspberry, and saw Coach Renee behind me, who smiled at me. Just moments later, Mom spots me from inside her car and calls me inside, and I take then to sign out (would've done that first if my phone said 21 instead of 20) before having to have some discussion with her about how I could get fired for slacking off like that.
She also mentioned having texted me to ask if I was due out at 2:00 or 2:30, even though we always copy my schedule onto her calendar. As it turns out back home, my phone had set itself to Do Not Disturb (not the first time) inside my pocket, which is why I never heard the signal or saw the preview.
(If the truck's there today, and I only have a few minutes left, I'll be sure to work those few or sign out first then.)

Similarly annoying, unrelatedly, is that a job post I created had somehow been set to invite-only. I only discovered after work yesterday, after posting five times and getting no proposals, and I suddenly got four proposals throughout the afternoon, with one more to have woken up to. This is the second time that has happened, the first being a year and a half ago, when I reposted for ROMhacks for the first time after all those months falling for Muhammad.
