Brian and I finally brought those logs and bushes to the landfill yesterday.

So it turns out that Food Fantasy's story really has ended even in China, but Aellope wasn't mistaken when he told me a few years ago that it was still going on there at the time.

To begin with, New World, which still remains exclusive to China even today, wasn't so much a new game but a reboot of the existing game's story. The circumstances I described on March 14, 2021 were what led me to ask actually how common it is for games like that to stop updating their stories. However, someone I spoke to on Upwork these past few days actually asked the Chinese fanbase about that game's story, and learned that its last update was on December 10, 2022, during the same story arc where the original ground to a halt, with a chapter that roughly translates into "And the Adventure Continues", in turn the name of an ending trope.

I can respect that at least that version of the story got some kind of closure. However, the end of service notwithstanding whenever that happens, I now need to question my original expectation of regular levels getting added on a regular basis a la Candy Crush Saga, all the way to said EoS.

Just last night, I asked on Reddit if anyone had similar expectations to mine. So far, it's gotten 73 upvotes and 34 comments, although most comments have been about how soon each game in question shut down after they had gotten into it.

Maybe I was comparing apples to oranges due to a lack of experience back in '19, having played only two other such games not very far in two years earlier.
