Mom and I managed to head out at 5 AM. Due to this past government shutdown, Marie was not able to come for this visit, and Brian and Emily's flight was delayed, to the point where they could only arrive late last night. (From what Mom told me, Bill and Karen had wound up stuck in Florida, and had to rent a hotel room for four days.)

-----

For the first stretch of the drive until we made it to New Jersey, she found our GPS to be somewhat faulty, and she had to take a short detour around a rest area before finding her way onto the right route.

The first rest area we actually stopped at, Thomas Edison, housed a vending machine with most of the same packaged cake slices that I used to buy at the bakery in Walmart, plus black-and-white that Walmart never carried. We didn't actually buy a slice, but it was interesting to spot.

Continuing from there was when I put The Slant on.

-----

Ate lunch at this diner called Red Roof Family Restaurant. Mom got a grilled cheese, and I ordered a pizza burger. Mom did ask me to keep things simple, but the waitress did offer fries with my burger, and I asked instead for some garlic toast.

The next rest area we visited shortly thereafter, I brought my wallet with me to see if there would be a snack there. Wound up getting a peanut butter fudge cup, to have with one of several protein shakes Mom had packed in the cooler. Mom had a nibble, and suggested I eat just half of it, so that I don't have a sugar headache by the time we arrive at the house.

Uncle Ray said when I asked, that he'd rather do his own thing whenever any of us decide to watch anime. One less person to account for, in case we manage to see Aunt Tracy next spring.

Showed Aunt Marie episode 4 of A Little Snow Fairy Sugar. Somehow, while various 3D effects are already noticeable in the show, such as when Sugar first creates a snowflake for Saga, the screen managed to display certain animations and camera motions pretty smoothly for an anime, like different assets comprising each scene in question instead of just one whole illustration, reminiscent of these Dr. Seuss and Rabbit Ears storybook videos Mom used to get me from the library when I was little (we did revisit Pecos Bill in particular months ago). (Will have to check YouTube, whenever Brian and Emily wake up who are sleeping where we watched upstairs, to see whether to chalk that up to the (Blu-ray) player or the TV, because I don't recall seeing things like that when I was watching those same DVDs with Mom up in the apartment last year.)

-----

I was the first one up this morning, at 4. At some point, I came out to look for a box of chocolate Kashi that Mom had packed, just to be able to type this entry on a somewhat full stomach, and Aunt Marie came down to greet me. She showed me the pantry they put that in, and I decided instead to have some Cap'n Crunch I spotted that she had originally gotten for Marie my sister. (She did offer me a crepe, but I decided I'd rather have one with everyone else once they're all up.)
