Dec. 8th, 2025 06:00 amMom and I had a walk around town mid-day yesterday, arriving back at the hotel mid-afternoon.
Stopped at a bookstore, but suffice to say, most of what was there, including the entire manga section, was in French. The cashier told me that there was a small section in English on a mezzanine, but there was no manga there. (Mom spotted some kind of SpyXFamily product up there, but that, too, was in French.)
Had lunch at this sushi diner called Sushi To Go. I ordered a chicken poke bowl and some Thai boba tea, while Mom got some kind of noodle soup.
Stopped at a cathedral called Notre Dame, which turns out to be the name of many different cathedrals and churches (the one in France, Mom explained, might not even be the "original" one, just the most famous). She donated $5 and lit two combined candles for Dad, his mother Barbara, and her own father Bob (she later explained that each costed $2 to light). We found a pew to sit in for a bit, and then looked around at the paintings before leaving.
Found a small souvenir shop, and bought a couple of presents for some people.
On a street some distance below the hotel, I decided to hit an en route ice cream parlor for a snack, and got two scoops of maple in a cup (no toppings), since we were in Canada. Turned out to contain traces of some kind of syrup with sugar crystals mixed in.
Returned to the hotel via something called a funicular ("funiculaire" in French), which is some kind of elevator-like lift on a rail spanning a rather steep slope.

We were planning to hit this toboggan slide after having some time to unwind and then having what turned out to be not so much dinner as appetizers (not much to spoil by having had such a filling lunch out in town, or a quick bite at Costco on the way here for that matter).
Sure enough, the selection for last night was half-different from the previous night. Managed to grab some bowtie pasta salad, a miniature lamb chop, a couple of miniature eggrolls, and a small dish of sushi, along with some small slices of roast beef, prosciutto, and what Mom asked is sopresata.
Unlike the previous night and in the daytime yesterday, when the line for tobogganing was pretty long, the ride itself was actually closed. Mom wondered if maybe it closed early like how many businesses back in the states close earlier on Sundays than other days.
We still decided to have a walk around town, but didn't stop anywhere this time.
Dessert was just more assorted pastries, although it did include a few that weren't there the previous night. Got myself just one small plate of six items this time.
