Old Westbury Gardens
Aug. 24th, 2008 09:46 amMom took me, Brian, and Grandma out to Old Westbury Gardens yesterday. Unfortunately, we didn't go to Planting Fields Arboritum because Mom thought I only wanted to go to Westbury. Whenever I brought it up, I didn't specifically mention Arboritum as well. But then again, when for example, people talk about 9/11/01, they only mention the World Trade Center (for the sake of convenience), not the WTC and the Pentagon. So, I assumed that we would be going to both Westbury and Arboritum, but Mom told me that Grandma doesn't even have the stamina to walk through both places that she used to have nine years ago. I even read in Marie's old blog that she and Scott recently visited Arboritum, but didn't even tell me. But, Mom did say that next Spring, we'll be sure to visit Arboritum. (By then, though, I might be done with the proofreading phase of Chronicles of 7th Grade, especially considering that I only have three and a half weeks left to write to that as of right now.)
(Just two days ago, I had a similar misunderstanding with Dad. I was just about ready to start watching Special episode 1 of A Little Snow Fairy Sugar while Dad was in the garage, but then he came in. I asked him if he wanted to watch TV, and his response was that Malcome in the Middle was on. At first, I assumed that he was letting me know in case I wanted to watch it. But, no. I was supposed to guess that he wanted to. A bit insulting, if you ask me. Next time he makes me guess an answer, he can fall in a well and die.)
Anyway, we saw all kinds of stuff during our walk through Old Westbury Garden. The first thing we saw was some game where contestants lift a log vertically, walk with it, and then toss it upwards. After seeing five minutes of that, we moved along, away from where the games and the petting zoo and whatnot were being hosted. We walked down a driveway leading to a parking lot, and soon made a left turn into the gardens. Mom and Brian took pictures of all kinds of things, which is usually what Marie specializes in... except that Marie was in California with Scott. We saw all kinds of flowers, a dog cemetary, a statue, a brick mansion, two turtles swimming in a pond, and more. Mom even jokingly told me that she was gonna pay me to mow the lawn by the mansion, which is a lot more than that at our own house.
Upon coming back to the fair, the first thing I noticed was a stand with various pirate merchandise, such as bumper stickers. But the first thing we looked at together was some bird trainers who had some falcons and owls on leashes. After a few minutes of looking at the birds, we moved on and looked for something to eat before going home. There was a pretty long line at the ice cream truck, but I waited through half of it before Grandma showed me what was at one of the dessert stands. I didn't really care much for what was at that stand, but we went to a different dessert stand. I bought an eclair, and Grandma bought five coconut macaroons to bring home. We went to some tent where I could sit down to eat my eclair, and Brian and Grandma each had several bites of it. By the time I stopped eating it, the water bottle we had was empty, and I had to walk down to the wash area... to find out that the soap dispensers were empty. I walked further down to the drink stand, and bought a new water bottle instead. Should know better next time than to get something so messy as an eclair.
Unfortunately, I didn't remember anything from when we went to Old Westbury Garden on 4/10/99. Actually, I don't think that I deemed much of that trip worth remembering at the time, but something might come up when I'm least expecting anything to.
Last night, everyone watched this movie called Saving Grace, but I hardly watched any of it.
Marie came home this morning, and was very tired from only getting two hours of sleep last night. I had to stop mid-entry to let her sleep on the futon, but now Mom and Dad are both awake, and Marie is sleeping in their bed for now.
