Jun. 10th, 2008 07:44 amLast night, Mom got some stuff from the attic that me, Brian, and Marie drew and/or wrote when we were little. Most notable, though, was a series of jokes called The Far Side Mix-up. This, however, was nothing like the real Far Side comic series. Even though each joke is based on an illustration from The Far Side, it was actually just random stuff based on The Catalog, which was something I made up in my head when I was little.
When Marie got home from work, she looked at a few entries, and then called Scott on her cell phone to tell him about it. She put me on to read him a few entries, but Mom told me to tell him that he'd have to see them to really enjoy them. After the call ended, Marie had to do something on the computer, but me and Mom looked through the rest of them.
So, what was The Catalog? It was a huge mega-crossover of everything I was familiar with at the time, such as The Rescuers Down Under, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, The Bots Master, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Duckman, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, X-Men, Short Circuit, The Adventures of Tintin, Garfield, The Oregon Trail, and many more. Even the mascot character for the appliances/electronics company PC Richard & Son was in it. Random stuff just happens, and the characters don't necessarily act in-character as they interact w/ one another. As for the title, that was inspired because I'd read the letters inside a wholesale catalog to decide all kinds of stuff that would happen in the "show".
