Recently, I found out on Bulbapedia that one could buy Diamond/Pearl-exclusive evolution stones on Pokemon Battle Revolution. That sounded interesting, so I decided to see how much it would cost to buy a Wii and the game. As it turns out, any Wii on Ebay costs several hundred dollars. I checked my bank account, and discovered that I only have $215 left in the bank. I called Mom and told her that I had around $1000 when last semester ended. She said I had spent most of it on textbooks, but she did say that if I wanted, everyone in the family (myself included) could chip in for one to get for my birthday.
It sure doesn't help that I don't have a job this semester, although that also means I have more time to focus on my schoolwork. On top of that, now's not a good time to repost Queen of Queens on Ebay, because another copy of that game is up for less than what I intend to sell it for. Pokemon Stadium is even less likely to get me any money. I looked that one up yesterday, and the first auction I saw was going for just $9, ending just one hour away from that time, had no shipping costs, and still didn't get any bids whatsoever. However, I do have one paycheck that's been sitting in my drawer, and I'm most likely going to get some money for my birthday next week, so I'll be able to deposit all that in one shot and have more than $300.
Anyway, the shop feature in PBR looked interesting. No such thing existed in Stadium, so how was I supposed to know that something like that would exist there? However, after having a closer look at it, I've decided that it's actually not worthwhile at all. First of all, like I've just established, the Wii itself would be way too expensive, and I can't expect right now to win the game for $10 or less either. Furthermore, as of right now, compatibility with Pokemon Platinum still has yet to be confirmed. It also turns out that I can only download one of each item onto any game card, because it operates under the Mystery Gift feature.
Now, about what the PBR shop has to offer, I'd say some things might actually be worthwhile. It has every single TM available in DPP, along with a bigger selection of berries than Pokemon Colosseum's shop offered. There's also the aforementioned evolution stones, which are the Dusk Stone, Dawn Stone, and Shiny Stone; those cannot be mined in the regular games, even though every other Evolution Stone to date can be. The problem lies with the game's selection of hold items. Most of them are things that enable one specific Pokemon to evolve when held during a trade, are useless with everyone else. There are already one of these within the games, and one is all a player would need to trade-evolve a Pokemon, and these usually don't have any secondary effects while held. The Soul Dew is only useful for Latios and Latias, which can only be migrated from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald, and which will already have one of its own. The only good thing about an Iron Ball is that they give Fling the most attack power, and any item Flung during battle disappears. (Gee, how'd you like to save up so many Poke Coupons for a metallic piece of shit, only to lose it after one use, and not be able to download another one to your game card?) You can get those things Underground, so scratch that one off. Light Clay seems a little more worthwhile, but all it does is extend the time that Light Screen stays active, limiting the number of Pokemon it's actually useful for, and you can mine the shit anyway. So, all that's left now are the King's Rock, Leftovers, and the Quick Claw. And like I said, you can only download one of each item to any Diamond, Pearl, or maybe Platinum game card.
To sum it up: Pokemon Battle Revolution = Too much money and effort to spend for hardly any reward whatsoever. My money would be better spent on Pokemon Ranger... that is, if Manaphy's Egg can be transferred directly to Platinum.
By comparison, Pokemon Colosseum for the Nintendo GameCube would seem more worthwhile. Even though it doesn't have as much of a selection as PBR, you can (if I'm right) buy as many items as you save up for, and the items themselves are somewhat more worthwhile. I already have a GameCube and a Game Link Cable, and could buy the game for much cheaper than PBR. However, it's a moot point, because I've already completed Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, and LeafGreen, and I already had seven badges in Emerald when I decided to give that a break.
