The Great Evolution Escapade!
Jun. 12th, 2012 07:38 amTwo days ago, after evolving my Gastly into Haunter (can't remember where, even though it was only a few days ago), I backtracked to the Global Trade Station for it to evolve into Gengar. Looked around, and found someone who wanted a Weavile in exchange for a Misdreavus. Thought it would be a worthwhile deal, and since Sneasel only evolves at nighttime while holding a Razor Claw, I took a break from the game and had Mom bring me to the gym for an hour to make up for a missed session, before coming home and washing and vacuuming her car.
Came back to the game, and took Sneasel out to battle around Sinnoh, before stopping at the honey tree on Route 214. Slathered some honey on it, and then walked up and down along the nearby fence to hatch an egg I was carrying. It hatched into Happiny, which can only evolve at daytime while holding the Oval Stone. How ironic! Not only is the first egg one obtains in Diamond and/or Pearl likely to be the last one to ever hatch, but while I intended for it to get a share of whatever experience Sneasel would have gotten, she was gonna have to sit out, since it would be a waste to level her up without evolving into Chansey.
After dinner, I stayed up until eleven to pass the time by digging stuff up underground. Went to bed, but then got up at 3:45 to use the bathroom, and then turned the game on. Found a level 6 Silcoon on the honey tree, which yielded just enough experience for Sneasel to level up one more time. That means that the fact that Happiny would miss out on some experience would be moot, since Sneasel needed the whole amount anyway, but then I slathered some more honey on the tree so that she (along with Haunter and Nidoran (female), who also needed only a tad more exp. for another level) could gain some (from a level 8 Wurmple).
Fought more battles on the way back to the GTS, but when I got there, the Misdreavus I was after was gone. Had reason enough to assume it would still be there, though, since not many people are likely playing the Gen IV games at this point, but I even looked around for it by gender and level, and couldn't find it. So, I did another search, and came across someone offering a Shiny Geodude named Racaillou for a Glaceon, and someone else offering a Japanese Turtwig for a Froslass. While both of those might have been around the previous day, it's already time-consuming enough just to search for each individual species without specifying their gender and/or level, so I probably wouldn't have come across these two opportunities if I had instead chosen to trade my Alakazam for a Garchomp in the first place.
While I was planning for the Eevee I got from Bebe to evolve into Umbreon, it actually had gone completely unused, as had a Snorunt that I captured on Route 217. Deposited my entire party, except for Onix and Haunter, and took out Eevee, Snorunt, Rayquaza (which knows Fly), and Arceus (whom I accessed with a hacked Azure Flute, and then taught HM Surf to). Flew to Hearthome City in order to access the part of Mt. Coronet where you only have to surf to get a Dawn Stone, and then to Snowpoint City to go straight to Route 217 from there. Encountered a wild Medicham, and had my entire team except Snorunt get a look at it before having Arceus K.O. it with Surf and letting Eevee do its job. (And it's also an honor to have Snorunt evolve on the very same route on which I captured her, albeit on the north end instead of the south end.)
Went back to the GTS, offered Haunter in exchange for an Arceus (since no one was offering that), and traded Froslass for the Turtwig. Withdrew Haunter, let it evolve into Gengar, and then put Onix up while it held the Metal Coat. Traded Glaceon for the Shiny Geodude, withdrew Onix, and let it evolve into Steelix. Turned out this was a better time than any to let it evolve, even though both forms have mostly the same moveset. Afterwards, I flew to a bunch of places on the mainland for stuff that happens daily, and then to the Fight Area, where I would swap my party Pokemon for the ones that knew any HMs I'll be needing for the Battle Zone routes and Stark Mountain, before leaving the game to rest for the night.
So, to sum it up, over the past two days, I got the following entries on my National Dex:
1) Happiny
2) Weavile
3) Chansey
4) Glaceon
5) Froslass
6) Turtwig
7) Gengar
8) Steelix
EIGHT IN TOTAL!!!!!
(By the way, is it any coincidence that I was able to trade something for a Japanese Turtwig in both SoulSilver and this game?)
