Damn! Need to keep better track of my own characters' personalities when writing anything for Cult/MCC.

Well, to start off, I've shown yesterday's entry to Jake last night while speaking to him on MSN. One of his complaints was that the characters sound rather alike to one another, and that Mondo in particular sounded a bit out of character (using "momentarily" instead of "for a moment").

Admittedly, my decision to have Jamison instead of Katsuo tell Anneth to shut up was intentional, since at that point in the ficseries, Katsuo would have long since gotten past his sexism. Jake, however, told me that Jamison in particular wouldn't have blurted out like that even if he was pissed off, and then I looked up my own bio sheet, and it turns out that he's even more right, since it says that Jamison would normally let things slide anyway (even though he can get touchy and doesn't back down when mad... so, kinda like Fuyuki from Keroro Gunsou). Thus, I interchanged him for Davis, since nothing in his bio would contradict him remaining mad at someone. (For that matter, yeah, Katsuo probably should have be the one to tell someone he's pissed at to shut up, regardless of gender, given how much more brash he still is by default than any of the other Knights.)

Anyway, in response to the whole passage, Jake sent me a list of questions to answer for each of the Knights, as to what they'd say when they're in a good or bad mood, what they'd say when working on a puzzle they can't solve, etc. Admittedly, I sometimes do think about the different things they'd say during battle if the whole thing was a game with the same battle system as Grandia III, just for fun, but of course, that wouldn't really apply to anything social. Also, I have been meaning to fill out this meme ever since Chelle showed it to me, but kinda put it off, especially as I got into writing the Cult prologue (where most of the Supporting Knights wouldn't really have much of a role anyway). Probably just gonna generate some random numbers for everything that's not already covered for each of the Knights, and then might show the results to Chelle and have her help me with what Jake had presented me with last night.

(For the record, I do recall while writing the prologue, Chelle suggestion that I change a certain line that Katsuo says when telling Ichirobei how he knows about cult-brainwashing, so as to suit his personality as a would-be gangster better, instead of him sounding like he's giving a speech. Not long afterwards, on my own, I changed a line he says later to McKnight from "Is that or is that not true?" to "That better be a joke!")

Anyway, here's the thing: In any anime revolving around a bunch of human characters of a similar age group and living in the same place (some examples being Kanon, Lucky Star, Persona 4, or any season of Digimon), distinctions among personalities and speech patterns aren't so exaggerated as with Cult's villain-team-to-be or the entire supporting cast of The Simpsons, but they are still there. For example, in Lucky Star, Kagami is rather brash at least half the time (though does lighten up at times), Miyuki is somewhat more formal than her friends (not overtly, though), Yutaka's personality is even more childlike than the other girls (including Konata), Minami is The Stoic, etc. However, in real life, such distinctions among groups of people is nothing short of subtle. True, I'm not exactly a social butterfly myself, as we all know, but there is also the fact that people tend to befriend those with similar interests and personality traits, not least of all the way they speak: Gangsters socialize with other gangsters, nerds socialize with nerds, those obsessed with fashion hang out with others who are into that, etc.

In other news, 1) I've got a new service coordinator, named Rick, who came to meet me for the first time yesterday, 2) had a pic completed for me, of the Beehive Brigade naked, and 3) Mom picked up a cable with which to hook up my white laptop (the one Marie sold me two years ago) to that monitor that Brian sent us.

Here's the pic:
