This solves everything!
Aug. 25th, 2012 06:42 amBrian said yesterday that those plugins that our computer kept asking us to update are safe enough to download and install. Took care of it, and now we don't have anything dropping down from the toolbar anymore and causing us to sometimes click something when we meant to click something else.
Later on, Mom and I spoke to him about my laptop, which she picked up from Apple the other day. Mom says that the people working there were gonna charge a flat rate of several hundred dollars to have it fixed. Brian told us that that's actually a lot cheaper than buying a new one altogether, and that the reason it stopped working in the first place is because it can only vent from the bottom of the back. While having it on a hard surface is okay, having it on something like the tablecloth or my lap would block the heat somewhat from escaping, and should therefore have something else underneath it such as a book or a magazine.
He is interested again in doing something with the Playstation 2, so he offered to pay for the repairs in exchange for me letting him borrow that. Especially since this was something he neglected to mention after he gave the laptop to me.
Since he mentioned the cost of buying yet another new laptop, I asked him how much a new hard drive* would cost when I get Dad one for Christmas. He said somewhere around $50, but asked why we would even need one when he already bought a video card for the one we have. I told him that that thing didn't make any difference whatsoever, and he had a look at it.
(*This is what I was really saving up for when I said I needed a new laptop. Just needed to keep that a surprise, but for the below reasons, it's now a moot point.)
A few minutes later, he pulled something up on YouTube, and the choppiness is now minimal. Check. I then tested Mother 3 on Visual Boy Advance, runs perfectly, and Mom also commented that I'm really into that "retro"* stuff. Next, Angry Birds on Google Chrome, check. And then, a few minutes later, Mom asked me what the remaining issue was with our hard drive, and I told her that it doesn't meet the system requirements for playing Grand Fantasia, or at least that's what Brian said last time he was here. I showed them to him, and he said that it in fact does.
(*Yeah, she also commented recently on how retro Mega Man looks when I was playing his first game. I told her later on the same day that it is retro, having been first released on the NES in 1987. However, while Mother 3 would still look and sound just primitive enough to be ported to the Super NES or something, it was actually released on the Game Boy Advance not even ten years ago.)
Well, it sure feels like we're on a cloud now when we use this computer. Now all that's left is to get my laptop fixed up.
Bought a new PS2 after speaking to Mom about lending Brian the one we've got. I told her that I'm gonna need one in order to play the X series when it's time to start celebrating Mega Man's 25th Anniversary late in November. Brian, unfortunately, is not gonna be coming home in time to give it back to me when I'll be needing it.
Anyway, now that getting a new hard drive is a moot point, I think I'll continue commissioning people for stuff today. Also, now that I'm able to play stuff on the computer again without any kind real slowdown, I think I'll be having a break from Mega Man for the time being. Of course, today, being a weekend, is probably not a good day to play something like Angry Birds, since I never know when Dad's gonna want to use our main computer, but at the moment, I think I'm also in the mood to play a few rounds of Getter Love!! as well.
