Grandpa's arrived today, and Mom says Marie will be coming home tomorrow.

Just spoke to Brian about my current business plans. He did suggest I look into online broadcasting, but as far as broadcasting on TV goes, I've got very little hope. Well, fine. As long as I feel like I'm on the road to establishing control over anything other than what I write personally, which I don't right now.

Here's the thing: To write something that I can host freely online without any hassle, which is exactly the case with most sites such as Fanfiction.net, YouTube, and this site right here, won't bring me the same kind of satisfaction as writing something for TV or to be published as a book would. That real feeling can only come by writing for a medium that maintains control and enforces its status quo most of the time. For those running the medium in question, even though bandwidth is a limited resource, these kinds of websites seem to have a lot more of it than TV channels, video game publishers, and publishing houses have money to fund people who want to produce higher-budget-than-indy stuff. Granted, website owners can and do still set content policies, but then those who create a work could just look for another site to showcase their creation. The other named examples, those who fund other people's works to enable it to become better than it would be otherwise, have to pick and choose out of what's shown to them what they'd rather fund, and that's where Executive Meddling comes in: What they choose to publish, they can also pull the plug on. This puts the developers under pressure to comply with any requests they make, since they likely won't get a second chance for anything real from another company. It's only natural. So, when you either get something published or approve something for publication that goes against the status quo, that's where you derive real satisfaction.

Well, at least with any kind of video site (and most other sites only have banners and maybe pop-ups), I'm still free to decide what kinds of commercials I'm willing to air and what has to go. So, that's better than nothing to start with. Still, Mom did show me Suffolk's course catalog the other night, and I did find some stuff related to TV production, but not about the business end of things.

Here's another thing worth mentioning: With anime in particular, there isn't any point in enforcing the Bechdel test, because there are already lots of anime that feature (and often are all about) female characters who talk to each other about stuff other than guys, unlike with other media.

But anyway, to sum it all up, I guess I seek such a hard goal to achieve because of how hard it would be. After all, there's no pride to be had in something you can do easily.
