We all celebrated my birthday yesterday. And, it wasn't the best.

This year, Mom made a peppermint patty layer cake, but thought that the icing tasted like toothpaste. Initially, I thought it was so-so, but when we all got around to actually eating it, I found that I didn't like it very much. Mom says that she'll probably scrape the icing off to do something else with. (The stuff comprising the cake part sure was good when it was freshly made, though.)

For presents, I got a bunch of scratch cards, and Brian had also bought me a box each of Junior Mints and Whoppers. Got that Mexican peso coin I found the other day to scratch the cards off with, but none of them won. So, nothing substantial. (I figured everyone would get me some scratchoffs without me even asking for those, given how fond I've become of those, but I kinda assumed they would be just a side-gift of sorts. But, at least the thought counts.)

Well, Mom did say that a copy I showed her of Mother: The Original Story, which was circulating on Ebay for around $60, was too expensive a gift this year, given our financial situation. Obviously, that would rule out buying a new hard drive for our main computer, even if all of us were to chip in, although I do intend to buy one at some point (the latest being as Dad's gift next Christmas). I thought DVD volume 3 of Puella Magi Madoka Magica might be a better gift, but, I guess not.

If anything, though, I did propose having her pay for some stuff that I'd have Brian commission for, which would go towards a game adaptation of Starbound should I ever cross that bridge. In particular, music. Particularly for battle themes. I compiled a bunch of songs from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Chip-chan Kick, Snowboard Kids 2, and the Mega Man series into a Word document, just to show Brian what kind of music I'd be looking for, although I would like everything to be completely original, rather than based off of anything already existing. Visual effects would also do nicely, given that at some point, I've already decided that, instead of yet another ROMhack, I would rather the game resembled what it could have looked like on the Playstation, the Sega Saturn, or the Nintendo... DS. In other words, still in 2D, but with better visuals and audio than Earthbound (especially since Mother 3 for the Game Boy Advance was inferior with both of those), with some intentional changes to boot (such as character portraits instead of checkered patterns filling the HP/PP panels; hey, it's not like EB itself was as similar to Earthbound Zero in terms of visuals, audio, or even game mechanics, as it was to M3).
