Showed Brian what I've got planned out for the Starbound game yesterday morning. He suggested that I keep the number of active characters and enemies that can appear onscreen down, stating that with up to ten characters active in battle, even with enemies appearing in excess as well and able to all gang up on you, it would still be too easy for you to win every single time, as you could just have everyone continually revive each other. However, do keep in mind that, even in Earthbound, revival items are expensive and only work once and on one character, each character can only carry up to fourteen items (and can only use anything they themselves are carrying), Healing gamma and Omega cost a lot of PP (for those who can even use PK Healing at all), and without any of those, playable characters can only be revived at hospitals or elsewhere. Even though here, there would be up to ten playable characters, each with twelve item spaces, money would still be limited enough that you still wouldn't be able to fill your whole inventory with Horns of Life or Cups of Lifenoodles. Even though in EB and Mother 3, regular HP-recovery methods are still viable for preventing someone from fainting even after they've taken a fatal blow, such wasn't an option in Earthbound Zero, and I might or might not do away with it for this potential game.

As for excesses with both the main party and enemies appearing onscreen, well, look at Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars. You've got a whole handful of mechs comprising your party, enemies tend to appear up to a dozen at a time, and it all still works. I suppose you could say that that's because only one character acts at a time anyway, but that was also true during actual battles in Earthbound. (Even outside of battle, enemies are known to appear in excess if you're playing a pirated copy.)

Oh, and you're probably gonna ask how having ten characters walking single file would even work. Actually, they'd be walking in a cluster instead of in a line. That, in fact, is something Chelle told me would be a better idea when we were discussing the fanfic's first chapter, so as not to become too easy prey for anything. They can assume a defensive stance to prepare for battle if the player finds one unavoidable, so as to avoid a Red Swirl of Death.

Had two coupon pages for this fast food place called Checkers. Went with Brian and Marie to the one in Patchogue, and I got a spicy chicken burger and a milkshake while they each got a cheeseburger.

Stopped at Stop 'N' Shop on the way home, where Brian and Marie picked up two containers of mint chocolate chip ice cream for milkshakes. Before we got inside, I told them that they can go get whatever they were stopping for, and I would go exchange $2 worth of quarters for singles. Marie exchanged with me instead, and I took a look at the scratchoff machine. There were seven brands for $2 each, six for $1 each, total of thirteen for less than $3 each. Didn't get anything, because when I checked my watch, the seconds digits said 00. Seven $2 brands means that 8, 9, and 0 merit nothing, and 13 doesn't divide evenly into 60. And yesterday was Sunday, which means that no numbers would be announced for any twice-a-week games last night, which rules that out. So, no purchase.

As far as our computer goes, while we don't have the money for a new tower, Mom told me that we could try setting me up with my laptop combined with that extra monitor. Might be able to give that a try.

For the record, I do prefer using a mouse and keyboard over a laptop, but settling for the latter shouldn't be a big deal. Angry Birds is playable on Roku, which is hooked up to our main computer, so I might be able to play that freely if Dad gets a new job somewhere by the time I come back to it.

A bigger problem is with emulators. For some reason, the only Macintosh-compatible emulator I've tried that has any menus at all was Visual Boy Advance (GBA). I distinctly remember having to use savestates on it the first time I played Mother 3. NEStopia (NES) and SNES9X (SNES) have nothing whatsoever, and for that reason, I had to figure out which keys went with which buttons in order to play anything, instead of being able to configure them myself. Just two days ago, I was hoping to play Knuckles Chaotix, but there are only two Genesis emulators compatible with Mac OS X, and neither of them have menus, meaning that I couldn't figure out how to configure the 32X BIOS. (The way our main computer is right now, that is one game I'd rather not play on it, given certain graphical gimmicks that semi-define it, which would be wasted on something with such choppy progress as that thing has.)

And then, there's Rosenkreuzstilette, which as far as I know, is compatible only with Windows. Good thing I don't plan on playing that one for a pretty long time, but when I do, I am sure as hell not gonna play it on our main computer the way it is either.

(Mom did tell me that Dad plans on bringing home his entire computer set, consisting of the keyboard, monitor, and two hard drives, home from the shop. However, I'm not sure if I'll be able to use those, since we don't know how we're gonna configure them just yet, and even if I am, who's to say that they'll actually run a whole lot smoother than our home PC?)
