Dec. 19th, 2014 08:14 amIn retrospect, I suppose I could have donated just one nickel back at King Kullen and left with a flat $5 in change.

Mountaindewslave settled for a partial refund of $20 w/o returning anything. So, at least I didn't lose out entirely. I did ask afterwards that he try to re-sell them to anyone who fixes games up for a hobby, but given his lack of a response to that, I wouldn't be surprised if he just threw them out instead.
My error for assuming they'd all work just fine. Good thing this wasn't my Super NES, although the death of that thing is what led me to sell most of my games for it in the first place back in 2010.
Ironic, isn't it also, that you play these games to build up a collection of mons, only for them to eventually disappear. That, of course, is the reason for the Pal Parks' existence from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl onward.
Red and Silver also happened to be the two games that I alternated between after I got the latter for Christmas back in 2000. At that time, unlike from 2003 onwards, I actually played them more normally, with the goal of having one of every mon that I could think up a nickname for, to use against everyone's more simplistically nicknamed mons in Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2. In fact, the later months of '00 and slightly into '01 have recently been on my mind in regards to both Pokemon and Digimon; I already shared some of the details with Jake the other night, but I might make an entry for it pretty soon. There still are things about both franchises that I have yet to actually come to terms with.
