Had Mom bring me to the mall yesterday. Bought all combined volumes of Puella Magi Oriko and Kazumi Magica, except for volume 3 of Kazumi, which wasn't there. Bought that one on Ebay when we were back home, before starting to read Oriko.

The reason I got into this all of the sudden, has to do with a story I've recently commissioned for, whose premise I will not describe in this post (you probably don't want to know). While I'm interested in at least the main five being depicted in a particular way, I also encouraged both of those I've commissioned to familiarize themselves with others throughout the franchise.

As it turns out, there aren't any scans online for any of the spinoff mangas, hence why I went to the mall. Currently, there are two more mangas, Suzune and Taruto Magica, that have yet to be localized here. The latter of those revolves around Jeanne D'Arc, who was depicted as a Magical Girl during the anime's salvation montage in episode 12, so it's obviously irrelevant anyway (unless anyone in said montage were to make some sort of cameo in the fic). From what I've read so far about Suzune's plot, none of the main five seem to be at all relevant, but the wiki's plot synopses only cover until chapter 5 right now, so who knows?

There is also a scenario in the mobile game, titled The Hollow Little Mermaid, in which four more appear who don't appear anywhere else in the franchise. While that can currently be viewed in two parts on YouTube, those without any real Japanese skills or access to anyone therewith won't be able to make anything out beyond what's specified about them on the wiki page (such as their actual speech patterns or why they challenge the main five to a duel).

Unrelated, I do find it rather odd that the character designs in the aforementioned mangas are more mature than those in the anime. I mean, even in the official games, the characters are still rounded and cute, as you would have noticed if you clicked any hyperlinks in the previous paragraph.

Then again, they were originally designed by Ume Aoki, who also drew Hidamari Sketch (another Puni Plush series). The art in Oriko Magica was done by Mura Kuroe, while Takashi Tensugi did that for Kazumi Magica.
