Sep. 29th, 2015 04:31 amHaving re-read certain documents and Bulbapedia pages yesterday, I think I just might be almost ready to start another chapter for Jamie's fic. All I have left to do first, is to re-read the beginning of his section in the outline and write up his log (most of what went on so far was strictly plot-related) and his party document (currently only has Totodile). Despite the entire case against continuing, it might still be interesting to write a general reconstruction of everything the games had to offer.
If I can make enough timely progress with all three current fics, I might actually consider coming back to the games (likely starting with Black, since I already owned a copy of White before), mainly in hopes of gaining ideas for a second ficseries. If I spot any games at Savers in the meantime, I might just consider buying them, also for any mons I could migrate into subsequent games.
I might also consider reviving Cult, should I get around to sorting out certain complications with that fic.
Also, since this has come up before, I should also note regarding both Parasitic Trio and Starbound, that several things I like about story-telling have been the way I end each chapter similar to an episode of an anime (something Brian commented on when I stayed over at his place) and how things play out when characters meet one another who don't do so canonically. Here, Ellen and Jamie's eventual meeting in Vermillion City (before they head to Sinnoh together) would be a notable example, as would Ellen, Jamie, and May meeting with Mira, Cheryl, and Riley respectively in their canonical locations.

For Starbound, a prominent example would lie in Birthday of Destiny. One night, Rokuna has all four of her then-current friends over for one of the most important events of her life, and they all have a kickass time together. Late the next comes a tense visit by Ichirobei's cousin Tadao and half his family, along with another canon character whom they themselves have only met earlier that night, while Rokuna meets up in the woods with her second-cousins Kagami and Tsukasa and also gets to meet their friends Konata and Miyuki for the very first time.
Robin's planned meeting with the party is also something I look forward to. Before she ends up joining them later under orders of a superior, she will first meet them by confronting them for "remaining" (actually having just arrived) in an evacuated zone while someone else in her unit calls for an arrest. (She, having done nothing but fight thus far, likely doesn't know just yet who they actually are or what they've been doing across the globe.)
Compare and contrast w/ Mondo's (much more lighthearted) introduction at the end of chapter 3 and into 4, in which he spots Miyuki outside a restaurant restroom by her hairstyle. Kagami initially mistakes him for just another pest and gets up with Rokuna to call him out (Rokuna herself merely wants to say hi). Rokuna then introduces him to both of the others, followed by Konata and Tsukasa, before they all meet with her own other friends whom Mondo was just hanging out with.

Back to Pokemon, should I continue playing the video games, I should make note of why I used to use 1-in-6 or -25 to decide upon certain things. To start with, 6 is the number of sides on a standard die, and also the arbitrary number of Pokemon a Trainer can have in their party. 25 had mainly to do with my player's guides for Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow and Crystal, which used percentages to denote Pokemon frequencies in each area. (All subsequent guides used categories instead, while the original one for Red and Blue classified frequencies simply between "Common" and "Rare".) 25 is the second power of 5, and 4 is the second power of 2 and the number it multiplies with to become 100, but it has just occurred to me that the product of any two square numbers is the square product of the original numbers. (X^2 * Y^2 = n^2; n = X * Y)
(Even though 12 is my favorite number today to base stuff on, that's actually a product of Dark Cloud (which I got for Christmas of '06, only a week after completing Crystal, and where I would then discover the twelve birthstones) and my elemental system (which consisted of twenty-four different elements until late in '09).)
