Managed to play the game on Mednafen, on my desktop PC. This tutorial is the reason why it took barely more than a day to figure out, and this being a multi-system emulator, I should be able to play PC-FX ISOs as well without any issues. (PSX emulation is said to be buggy, though, and it's been three years now since the program was last updated.)

Ironically, I actually did get it to work when I was first trying to play Makeruna! Makendou Z seven years ago. Didn't realize because of that selection screen with all the options spread out (instead of it going straight to the game itself; didn't know what to do there), but upon buying my own PC-FX, it turns out that even the real thing does that. Having already made my investment, I had since forgotten how I got the emulator to work, and aside from having to play on a shared computer (instead of my own TV set once I obtained a more compatible one a year later) until getting my own desktop several years ago, I might've been better off in some ways had I stuck with the emulator (such as finishing my transcript sooner, having better video quality once I'd find some PC-recording software, and not having to spend additional money on both that game and Chip-chan Kick later on.)

Anyway, just to remind myself, my point of playing Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes is to turn off my focus on both Starbound and the Cibus series for the time being, so that I feel refreshed enough to ponder them after I bring them up with Brian and Marie during their next stay here and when we return home from our subsequent visit to Grandma Barbara's. I do plan on playing Dragon Warrior III at some point, but with another (two) RPG series here to tackle, I could kinda use a change in pace after having already played II last summer. Definitely planning to play either The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch or Mana Khemia: Student Alliance upon receiving my PSP officially for Christmas, but everything will be more spread out overtime from there on, depending on when I need a break from story- or game-planning and what I feel like playing each time.
