Went to the Bellport library with Mom, and she gave me this book that she was about to return, called When the Past Begins. She described it as chronicling the correspondence between author Amy Tan and an editor of hers about a similarly doomed novel to Unwilling Service, and the introduction very much confirmed that when I read it last night.
