The other day as I started chopping wood again (not so strenuously as before), the very middle of one medium-sized round fell out after I cut it in half and then the attached half to pieces. Showed Dad a few nights later, and he told me it's called a tree shake, from when it dries up faster than the outside and shrinks within or the tree itself suffers from wind or falling.

There is also an edge bent downward from the weight of a branch.
