Turns out that Messianic does not want his work copied, and that CoilSnake, which is what most ROMhackers use to decompile Earthbound, is not compatible with recompiled ROMhacks or patches.
This is actually pretty convenient for me. Now I have no reason left to bother with a heavily modified game with some changes I don't agree with (such as to the Starman Jr. battle), and without any walkthrough currently for it. Was also going to put Earthbound on the back burner for until either it comes out or I have my ROMhacks for Earthbound Zero, Mother 3, and SMRPG, the last of which Aderemi seems to be on a roll with from what he's explained to me thus far; this eliminates any reason to do so, especially with Earthbound being the game I want to put out a ROMhack and walkthrough for first.
