Marie reported to Mom the other day, having broken her arm during a biking trip in Canada. Being in too much pain to fly, she will not be coming here for Grandpa Bob's upcoming funeral, nor are we able to postpone anything after some of us already each reserved a hotel room for then, nor would she herself want us all to replan everything just for her sake.

Should've mentioned this yesterday, but while I am only working Sunday for this coming week, the following week is scheduled to be my first three-day week working at BJ's, for varying hours between Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Can't wait to see my paycheck Friday the week after.

A couple of weeks ago, I spotted a wasp in the bathtub just short of stepping in. And it's a good thing I put my glasses on to verify, lest I mistake it for yet one more carpenter ant that I had been seeing one at a time of every few days until then. Trapped it inside a small tupperware and left it outside to suffocate (took until midday the next day); wasn't going to set it free and risk getting stung.

Mom and I saw another one the other day, this time on the bathroom counter, when she came upstairs for something. I mentioned that first one I saw to her, but we managed to set that one free after trapping it inside a different container.

Just yesterday, I noticed what was probably a yellowjacket, once again in the bathroom, up against the window. Closed the blind and turned the window open to set it free, and then brought it up with Mom after looking up online if I might have any reason to suspect a nest somewhere above the ceiling, once she had a chance to wake up from her afterwork nap.

We discussed what might be going on while she drove me for a haircut, and so far, there haven't been any such signs as buzzing, and there is also the fact that wasps and yellowjackets are mutually territorial. (We even tried running the fan when we got home, and just letting it run while I'd mow some of the lawn, and nothing had emerged by the time I went back upstairs.)

This morning, I brought up the idea of putting something like some kind of netting around the fan vent, but she pointed out that the closest thing any tenant of ours ever complained about was a small paper wasp nest outside the skylight, and that for all I've actually noticed, the might even be coming in through the air conditioner and managing to evade notice in such a much larger space as the main part of the apartment.

No idea so far what could possibly be going on, especially since nothing like this happened even a year ago. Guess I'll just have to inspect the entire bathroom each night before showering off.
