Dec. 1st, 2023 05:57 amMy plans for Getter Love!!'s 25th anniversary have officially failed.
RMG Portable, the very emulator I managed to play the game perfectly on back in July, would not even load the game on my current desktop, even when I followed the steps in a YouTube tutorial. At one point, it occurred to me to try it on my laptop, which did make the in-playthrough part of my intro easier to rehearse when I could pull a script on Google Docs up on my desktop to read directly off of, but then I went on to experience some kind of lag half the time, which a mini-game would soon exacerbate.
So much for such experimentation I did back in July that would soon cost me the desktop I had then. (No, I am not presenting something with such alternate problems as facial features missing half the time, outlines around said features, certain other graphics messed up, or impaired joystick controls.)
If anything good has come of this, at least that'll prevent me from recommending an emulator/setting combination that still won't provide a definitive experience, even if it would still improve things somewhat. Makes me wonder if it actually came down to better hardware, since Brian had put that first computer together himself and wouldn't have had to cut corners for mass production, which would actually line up with something someone mentioned about graphics cards when I brought it up on Discord last night.
To think I had actually been meaning to get some playthroughs done as well in advance as possible, at least once Ozzy would have a tentative patch ready to share with me (just a few weeks ago, as per an agreement we had reached beforehand). Admittedly, I haven't kept track of everything that went on to distract me from that, but it should say enough when that all forms the same reason I recently made a rational decision to delegate Unity to someone on Upwork; with one game already on my plate, it's not like I mindlessly squandered it all with yet more aborted playthroughs of Disgaea 1 Complete.
That said, I have come across this comment as to why N64 emulation in general is still subpar to this day:

With that, even though I could try putting a reproduction cartridge together, I should also look into commissioning for a plugin dedicated to that one game and see how much that would cost. (The former, along with being restricted to personal use, would also require me to buy a DVD-recorder separately in order to record my footage, and particularly one with a USB port in order to record voiceovers.)
Well, the aforementioned 25th was the whole reason Getter Love!! was going to precede Earthbound, the inspiration for my main project from before I'd first think of creating walkthroughs, in my lineup for exactly those and their corresponding playthroughs. The way things stand, I might as well go back to my original plan and give the first honor back to Earthbound, with Getter Love!! free to happen whenever amongst the other three priority games, whenever, say, someone completes that plugin for me to promote.
