Feb. 12th, 2024 06:15 amYesterday was Brian and Emily's last day here. They had to leave at some point after I'd be off to work.
Shortly before Mom drove me out, Marie got around to showing me how to use Uber, which I had already started looking at early in the morning. She agreed to help me after work to practice then with it.

From what I noticed the other day on a calendar near the break room, yesterday was National Peppermint Patty Day, and the 20th is National Muffin Day. After concluding my shift and retrieving my jacket et al, I received a text from Mom to come meet her and Marie, but went first to get two bags of (sugar-free) peppermint patties, even giving her a hold-on gesture when she noticed me.
I told her what the deal was upon meeting her near the entrance, and Marie stayed behind to show me the ropes.
We managed to summon a red Toyota Prius, and spotted another red Uber car that I almost started approaching. Marie showed me that the model and other details did not match what I had, especially having cited an incident in South Carolina earlier on that cost someone her life.
The right car arrived soon, and the driver, Alberto, proved rather chatty with Marie, discussing such things as how he wondered why I was marked "on top of" (probably inside) the building, his career as a circus clown since 1989, and his Uber status always resetting from platinum whenever he needs to relocate. He dropped us off on Masem Court, where the app instructed him, rather than at the end of our actual driveway.
-----
Busted out those peppermint patties after dinner. Poured myself a glass of milk to have with mine, but Mom suggested right then that maybe I could have half the remainder of some vanilla ice cream to put them on, and I put the still-full glass in the fridge. Good thing she suggested that, since ice cream is what goes best after such a garlicky dinner as lasagna and garlic toast.
