Oct. 1st, 2024 06:48 amYesterday's shift was scheduled for 2 to 7. Mom was home midday yesterday, and was able to drive me at 1 before going up to see Dad. Would have checked out a couple of places across the street at Mom's suggestion, and then read a few pages of Magical Girl Raising Project, had none of the following bullshit unfolded to leave me with just one minute before my shift would begin. (Good thing I even had so much time beforehand, rather than having it all cut into my shift.)
Spotted a whole slotful of change in the Coinstar machine. Rather than fit all that into either of my pockets with either my phone or my handkercheif, or put it in my locker that I should actually straighten up tomorrow (off today), I initially tried to re-deposit it. Managed a gross total of around $2.53 before the machine stopped registering anything and just kept giving me my remaining money back. Called over to customer service for help, and it turns out that the machine was full, but someone had yet to mark it out of order.
Ended up trying again at someone's suggestion who came over to look at it, and managed a gross total this time of 11 cents.
Started wondering what to do with the remaining $7.23. Having already had both lunch and a snack at home, expecting to have dinner when I'd come home (ended up skipping that), and being all set for snacks at home, my first idea was to exchange it for singles for SCAT, but even money services, let alone customer service or a team lead, is not allowed to do that. (Manager Doreen explained shortly after I'd clock in, that opening up a register unnecessarily can lead to mistakes of some kind that can cost the store money, but did tell me that it is viable during actual transactions.)
Decided instead to buy what ended up being two bottled protein shakes in succession for $3.28 each, one to have during my fifteen, and drank the boxed one I had brought from home and originally intended for then, after storing the first bottled one. (The second one might as well supplement some macaroni salad and a slice of cake or something also from in-store tomorrow.)
(It occurred to me later that maybe that change would have fit well enough underneath my handkercheif, something flexible enough to keep folded into a square and just fit around all those coins. Not like my phone, whose screen I wouldn't want getting scratched up either.)
As it turned out afterwards, the machine had once again given me cash vouchers, for respective net totals of $2.03 and nothing, instead of the Starbucks credit that I made sure I was selecting this time. Went on to redeem the first of those, before calling the number on the latter, and it took a good few minutes after I made my way outside away from that damn radio, to let someone know that my issue wasn't so much with having forfeited a few cents, but with being issued the wrong type of reward twice to date, a clear indication that something is wrong with the machine. She agreed to send a technician over, but for whenever my change jar fills up again, I am now considering bringing that to Stop & Shop instead.
