Today's Co7G entries begin with me finally buying Banjo-Kazooie and Matthew coming to sleep over, and concludes with Brian's birthday that year. Like I said, though, nothing in particular had happened on New Year's Day that year, so this will start the day following.
January 2, 1999 (Saturday)
This morning, me and Mom went to Wal-Mart. I bought Banjo-Kazooie while we were there. We then went to the library. I hid the manual under my jacket while we were inside, but Mom told me I shouldn’t because it would make people suspicious. I sat in the adult section and read it.
Later, when I got home, Matthew came over. I told him “I bought Banjo-Kazooie, and my brother borrowed Snowboard Kids.”
“When did you buy it?” he asked me.
“Today,” I told him.
Brian started playing Banjo-Kazooie, and me and Matthew were watching him. I was mimicking the voices, and Brian’s like “He copies the voices.”
Tonight, I was playing Snowboard Kids, and I asked Matthew if he also wanted to play. He just wanted to watch me, so I just played by myself while Matthew watched me from my bed.
January 3, 1999 (Sunday)
This morning, Matthew went with us to Sunday School.
Later today, we played with Legos, and I just made a pole out of all the 2-space blocks. I showed it to Dad. He’s like “Can’t you make anything more sophisticated than that? I bet a 3-year-old can make that, a 2-year-old even.” So I got the Banjo-Kazooie manual and made all the items out of Legos.
Matthew then started playing Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3, but he only got a few levels in each game. I shared today’s Kinder Egg with him. I tried to break it exactly in half, but it didn’t come out perfectly even, so I just gave him the one with more centimeters of chocolate.
Tonight before dinner, Brian was playing Banjo-Kazooie, and he got up to the part in Gobi’s Valley where you meet Rubee. Unlike with all the other voices, I was too shy to imitate hers. Dad then came in and asked us who’s gonna set the table, and me, Matthew, and Brian all pointed to Marie for a joke. Dad’s like “No pointing to Marie because she’s a girl.”
After dinner, we watched an episode of Black Adder. I then asked Matthew if he wanted to play Snowboard Kids with me, but he didn’t want to play. He just watched me before his parents picked him up.
January 4, 1999 (Monday)
Today, I wore my white “South Park” t-shirt back to school. When Mrs. B. came to my homeroom today, she noticed it, and she’s like “South Park! Now you match with everyone else!”
I spoke to Jonathon about what he got for Christmas. He told me he got some games for PlayStation and a bunch of other stuff (I forgot the rest of them). Mrs. B. suggested I went to his homeroom at Lunchtime, so I went to Room 303. I was with myself at that time. It went fine. Even though he was talking to other kids, he didn’t mind if I spoke to him.
January 5, 1999 (Tuesday)
Today, Matthew came over before we went to Group.
When we got to Group, I was singing those songs from South Park to myself. On the way home, Mom spoke to me about talking to myself. “Doesn’t he do that sometimes?” she asked Matthew.
When we got home, we saw Dad working in the garage. “Is that a walkman?” Matthew asked Mom.
“No, those are earmuffs because the machines in there can really hurt your ears,” Mom answered him.
January 7, 1999 (Thursday)
Before dinner, I was studying the four types of conflicts. They are “Man vs. himself,” “man vs. man,” “man vs. nature,” and “man vs. society.” I went over with Dad when he got home. After I told him what the four types of conflict are, he’s like “What about ‘woman vs. nature?’”
Tonight, we had stew, as usual on Thursdays.
January 8, 1999 (Friday; Brian’s birthday)
Last night, I had a dream that Marie and Dennis were snowboarding, and then Brian, James, and Craig were also having their own snowboarding race, and then me, Erin, and Shamique also came in. I’m gonna make “Snowboard Kids 2,” which includes those eight kids and Kyle from “South Park.”
Today, Ms. Amendola was with me in school.
When I got home, I wandered outside while it was snowing, and then wrote everything that happened in the game. Erin won both laps in Big Snowman, so everyone was singing a song to celebrate Erin. Since she is one of the Fashion Police, she might’ve even taken out a paintball gun out of her pants. While I was wandering in the house, Brian got up to Volvagia in Legend of Zelda 64.
Later, Mom told Brian and Marie that they have to join the Science Fair. They were both pissed off about it. Meanwhile, I was reading that MAD Magazine that I got for Christmas, and I was laughing my ass off. Brian’s like “Shut up!” Later, I showed it to him when I was done with it, and he was also laughing.
After dinner, we celebrated Brian’s birthday.
Back to the present.
For the first time in years, I came to work for Mom at the hospital yesterday. She suggested that I come to work with her two days a week from now on, as a change in pace from just sitting around the house all summer.
If there's anything I have to come to some kind of terms with regarding Pokemon DPP, it's that if you're gonna trade Pokemon through wi-fi, you have to have seen whichever Pokemon you're looking for. Anything you see in the Battle Tower or in link battles don't count, noooo! You have to actually see the damn Pokemon within the damn game! That means the only way to get past-gen legendaries or 2nd-gen starters is to either migrate them, trade them off of HeartGold or SoulSilver, or just hack them. I understand that migrating said starters, which are Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile, require you to fulfill some herculean task in either Pokemon Emerald or Pokemon Colosseum. Furthermore, I had a look at the Global Trade Station in Pokemon Pearl, looked for an Articuno, and found two people who were looking for event-only legendaries: one for Celebi and one for Deoxys. Unless they used cheating devices, however they managed to ask for those two is beyond me. Even though I'm not going to use a peripheral to hack for Pokemon, I did ask on Yahoo Answers if there were any hacking codes that would let you ask for pretty much anything whatsoever.
Another thing I'd like to comment on in DPP: Trainers and their respective songs. First of all, I know that Youngsters, Lasses, Bug Catchers, Campers, Picnickers, and School Kids are always the first varieties of trainers you'll come across in any game, but it sure sucks that you only get to see them or hear their themes at the very beginning of the game. RBY and FRLG had Lasses and Picnickers up until the fourth Gym, and GSC had them up until Olivine Lighthouse. Even though RSE doesn't have them for as long, it does have other Trainer classes that share the same tune. Man, Lasses have such a nice song, and it sucks that you never get to hear it again after reaching Floaroma Town.
Aside from that, I'm not that fond of the song you hear when a Sailor or Fisherman spots you, or the one where it's a Biker, Skier, or Bird Keeper. If there's one that I really can't stand, though, it's the one you hear an Ace Trainer (equivalent to "Cool Trainer") or a Veteran spots you. On the other hand I just love the one that plays when you encounter a Blackbelt, Psychic, Rocker, or Cop! It's the best damn battle-alert song ever in a Pokemon game, period! Too bad you have to go to an MP3-sharing site instead of YouTube to listen to it outside the game (and even then, only for one loop at a time), and it's a good thing I'm playing one of the DS games once again. It will be so good to hear it once again, after hearing their annoying equivalent themes from RSE so many times!
