Chronicles of 7th Grade: Week 20
Jun. 27th, 2009 05:38 amFor today's Co7G posts, the most significant events would be the winter chorus concert on Wednesday, and a snow day on Thursday. Not as much to say about the former as about the latter.
January 11, 1999 (Monday)
After dinner, while I was writing, Brian was watching Beavis and Butthead. I came in and watched. Dad was in the kitchen, and he called me over, and he’s like “Did you watch Beavis and Butthead? I told him “No.” Mom’s like “Then what are you stomping on the floor and making weird noises for?”
Later, Hey Arnold came on, and I watched:
Helga and her friends were making jokes about Patty, and Patty promised to beat the crap out of Helga. Then, Sid invited Lorenzo over to his house, but he borrowed Arnold’s house.
January 12, 1999 (Tuesday)
Today, I wore my black South Park t-shirt to school. We were doing an activity in Science, and some black girls saw it. One of them asked me what my favorite character is. I told them it’s Kyle.
We had a chorus rehearsal 6th Period. During the rehearsal, Mrs. Schimf was saying something, and I mimicked her. After the rehearsal, Mrs. B. asked me “Now, when you mimic Mrs. Schimf, does that get you on her good side or her bad side?”
“Her bad side,” I told Mrs. B.
Today in Music, Janus saw what I was wearing, and she’s like “South Park? Aaaah!”
When I got home, I had an orthodontic appointment. While I was waiting in the chair, the orthodontist is like “You watch that?” It had the many forms of Cartman on it.
Tonight at Group, before we went inside the building, Mom’s like “Don’t egg on Sean, or we’re not getting Snowboard Kids, even for your birthday.”
When Group started, I told them about 4th Period today. Josh shared with us that he got a Pikachu cyberpet. He showed it to us. Sean told us that he went to see The Bug’s Life. Juliet said that she wasn’t going to be in Group next week because she was going on a trip somewhere, but if we behave ourselves, she would bring home some seashells and offer them as prizes the following week.
January 13, 1999 (Wednesday)
Tonight was the night of my Chorus concert. While we were getting ready, I kept asking my parents why they can’t buy Snowboard Kids for me. They told me that they already bought Banjo-Kazooie, which I actually got with my own money. I asked Mom if I could get Snowboard Kids if I do good in the concert.
For this concert, we sang “Winter Wonderland,” “Gadeamus Hodie,” “Solitary Snowflake,” and “Keeping the Dream Alive.”
When we got home, I continued asking why we can’t get Snowboard Kids. Dad then was about to grab my arm, and I got onto the floor, and he pulled my arm. I tried to get away. He told me the same thing while he was still holding my arm.
January 14, 1999 (Thursday)
Today was a snow day.
This morning, I was waiting at the bus stop out in the freezing cold. While I was waiting, I started running back to the house, but Dad told me to go back. Later, Mom and Dad found out that the bus wasn’t coming. I’m like “That was a close call. It was hell out there.” Mom asked me if I wanted to watch Pokémon today. Instead, I went back to bed to warm up.
Later today, the cesspool guy came over to talk to Dad. I looked out the window to see who it was. Marie’s told me it was Bob Hartwell, but after he left, Dad came in, and he told us that it was the cesspool guy. Dad, Brian, and Marie then were talking about what would be in the cesspool.
This afternoon, James came over and brought Snowboard Kids with him. I played it. Before James went home, he, I, and Brian raced eachother in Snowboard Kids. We played in Dizzy Land. After I finished my third lap, Brian and James were just using Speed Fans to go up and down the top. I got bored watching them, so I just wandered inside the house and thought about a version of Snowboard Kids 2 where all the Bible School Kids were going snowboarding in Dizzy Land.
January 15, 1999 (Friday)
Today, we didn’t have school for the first half of the day, so I played Banjo-Kazooie. Before the bus did come, Mom drove me to the end of the driveway. She asked me if I still want Snowboard Kids. I said yes.
Today, we had each period cut fifteen minutes short.
Back to the present.
This is usually the time of year that Mom and Dad go to the Woodenboat show. This year, though, they decided not to go, because it's been rainy for more than a week now, and such would probably be the case there as well.
-----
I asked Mom to bring me to GameStop yesterday, so that I could see if their used copy of Pokemon Ranger was complete enough for me to download Manaphy's egg onto my own Pokemon games. She brought me over, and during our stay there, also stopped at the liquor store in the same shopping center. As it turns out, their Ranger copy had not been completed, but I will add that game in my list of games to play before Platinum. However, they in fact do have their own Nintendo DS, which in fact serves as a demo unit and even had another game already in it when the clerk handed it to me. That means that whenever I'm playing Platinum and decide to trade Shaymin and/or Regigigas off of Pearl, I can just hop on over there and take care of things.
As far as trading goes, I've decided that I'm only gonna visit the Global Trade Station whenever I need to evolve a Pokemon that can only do so through trades. I understand that there's a glitch in the game that lets them evolve upon being taken back, just by being put up for trade in the first place. Each time I visit the GTS, I will also look for one Pokemon that either I forfeited or that cannot be obtained in Diamond at all. And then, regarding previous-gen Pokemon that don't appear in Diamond, once I complete the main game, I will collect Friend Codes (most notably off of Yahoo Answers), visit the trading rooms each time I reach a PokeCenter, and see if anyone has anything worthwhile and is willing to trade it for something that I have.
Speaking of Pokemon, it was also on this day last year that I downloaded Deoxys, my first event-Pokemon ever, onto Pearl. I've been keeping an eye on both Bulbapedia's main page and Pokemon.com for further events, and this is also one of the reason why I'm holding off on playing Platinum. Every day, I check Bulbapedia a handful of times, craving for more events to look forward to, but the real name of the game is to not miss out on events. Unlike with fanfiction, I can't take a break from it, because once each event ends, there's little hope of ever getting the same thing again. Now, I do understand that we got a lot of Pokemon downloading opportunities during the RSE/FRLG era, I'm glad to be living in the United States, since it get far more of them than any other country except Japan, and I got really lucky to have found out about it from--of all things--Penny Arcade (which isn't even Pokemon-oriented). But, do I regret missing out on anything prior to Deoxys? No. I would compare my keeping track of events like that to keeping a record of my life on this website, which I wouldn't be using today if it weren't for my old friend Adalia Glenys so many years ago.
And finally, what a coincidence it is that just yesterday, when I said that YouTube didn't have the Pokemon song that I like so much, it suddenly does!

Finally, it's only too well-known that Michael Jackson has just recently died. Now, I was never one of his fans, but I am a fan of both kickass video game songs and the Angry Video Game Nerd. So, first, here's a link to Kayin and Ten Count's theme from Battle Arena Toshinden 3:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtTPaX5P7pI
Now, what's that got to do with Michael Jackson? Well, anyone who's at least familiar with the game (not necessarily having played it, which I haven't) will know that the latter of those two characters is based on Jackson himself. (His pics will appear starting at the 1:42 mark.)
For the second link, here is, the fuckin' Nerd's review for Michael Jackson's Moonwalker on the Sega Genesis:

Sure is a coincidence that has been his first AVGN video for the year 2009. (And, yes, I did see his tribute to Jackson this morning, which he narrated as himself.)
