Today's set of entries starts with Easter of the year I spent in 7th Grade. Wednesday is a visit by Brian's then-friend Eric and my friend Matthew each. Thursday is the day that Grandma Barbara makes her second of two visits, and also introduces something that would become a potential Mon Colle Knights/reality crossover fanfic based on my life in 7th Grade. And Saturday is not only Dad's birthday, but the day that we visited Planting Fields Arboritum and Old Westbury Garden, the latter of which Mom took me, Brian, and Barbara to revisit last year.
April 4, 1999 (Easter)
This morning, I played Snowboard Kids 2, and Duckbutt was watching. Marie came into my room when I was at the Haunted House.
“Why is Slash dressed as a captain?” she asked.
“It’s Halloween,” Brian answered. “And I hope Duckbutt’s scared half to death.” I then tossed Duckbutt to the side, and he's like “Good boy.”
I beat the Haunted House, but when I went back to the Stage Select screen, it turned out that I couldn’t go to Ice Land for some reason.
Uncle Robby, Grandpa Bob, and Cousin Adam came over today. Not much to say about their visit, but before they did, Dad had me and the other kids move branches to Long Island Avenue. Not much to say about that either.
I’m getting bored of Snowboard Kids 2.
Tonight, Dad had us kids watch this show called Horatio Hornblower with him. Mom also watched it with us, but Uncle Robby, Grandpa Bob, and Adam had already gone home.
April 7, 1999 (Wednesday)
Mom has already taken back Vigilante 8 and Snowboard Kids 2. Me and the other kids have also been moving branches to Long Island Avenue every single day so far since Sunday.
This morning, me and Brian were also told to move bricks from behind Dorothy’s house. Not much to say about that.
Eric came over today, and he brought his special edition Gold cartridge of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. He and Brian played Cruisin’ World and Ocarina of Time, and I watched them. While they were playing Ocarina of Time, Eric told Brian that he’s not allowed to play Nintendo. He’s being punished for saying “shut up” in class; some kid behind him was being a distraction, but Brian suggested that next time, he should say “be quiet” instead.
Later on, Matthew came over, and the four of us decided to play hide and seek. Brian said that none of us should hide down Masem Court, but I did so anyway. I did return to the house and actually played the game with them. We then went inside. Me and Matthew went into my room, and he noticed that Magic 8 Ball by my bed. We had some fun with it, and after a few questions, I asked the 8 Ball, “Does Eric keep a stupid duck?” I can’t remember what it said exactly, but it did say something like yes. I pulled Duckbutt out from the side of my bed, and showed him to Matthew. We then played Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and then Matthew went home. I then played the game for myself, and noticed dust around the control stick. It seems that the dust was actually part of the stick, and eventually, it’s just gonna be unusable.
“Why don’t they make controllers out of metal?” I asked Brian, who was watching me.
“If they made steel controllers, your hands would be uncomfortable,” he answered.
April 8, 1999 (Thursday)
Grandma Barbara has come to visit us today.
I’m still playing Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Today, it was raining, but I wandered outside anyway. I was thinking about some show I might make. It would have everyone I know from school living in New York City instead of on Long Island. Instead of taking the buses, we would be riding the subway to school. Instead of having the elementary school take Kindergarten through 5th grade while the middle school takes 6th and 7th grades, it would be merged into one school, divided into sections of K-2, 3-4, and 5-7. Everyone in 5th through 7th would also be into skateboarding, snowboarding, and roller blading. We would also have something that lets you play Super NES games away from home, which can be either owned personally or available on the subway.
Actually, an equivalent to the handheld in question does exist. It’s called the Sega Nomad, which is designed to play Genesis games away from home. Also, the "show" that's described above is what eventually evolved into the plot for a potential fanfic described here.
April 9, 1999 (Friday)
I’m still playing Ocarina of Time, and I’m already at the Water Temple. That dungeon sure is a pain in the ass. I’ve been doing nothing but going around in circles most of the time, looking for keys when there’s a locked door to unlock. Even Brian couldn’t help me with it, and he’s been spoiling the game for me since I’ve started, even though I asked him not to. Fighting Dark Link was pretty fun, though, and it’s a good thing Brian wasn’t around to ruin the fun. First, I’m attacking him with the Biggoron Sword. Some strikes did successfully damage him, but most of the time, he just keeps blocking the damn sword. I tried shooting arrows at him, but he just rolled underneath each one of them. Next, I tried charging up some 360 slashes, but doing that only gives him a chance to attack me freely. My last resort was to use Din’s Fire, and that did it.
While Mom, Dad, and Grandma were sitting on the couch together, I asked Grandma why she threatened to take Seaweed and throw him out the window last December. She said she was kidding, and she likes a little otter. and asked me if I could go find him. I looked under my bed, and it took about a minute. Mom told me that it’s not that important. I was starting to think the same thing, but I found him the very next moment, and showed him to her.
April 10, 1999 (Saturday; Dad’s birthday)
I got up to the Gerudo Training Grounds in Ocarina of Time.
Today, all of us went to some place, where we walked around looking at gardens. On the way there, we saw some really fat trees with cherry blossoms. Not much happened most of the time while we were at the place, but on the way out, we noticed a tree that was sawed down. Brian counted the annual rings on it, and it turned out to have lived over two hundred years. Annual rings was one of the things I learned about in Science, and obviously, so had Brian.
On the way back to the car, I was leaning my head on Brian and Marie’s shoulders, but they didn’t like it. I told Brian, “Lean on me, or I’ll lean on you.”
After leaving the place, we ate out at some restaurant. I don’t remember what Brian and Marie ordered, but I ordered some kind of burger. Brian and Marie indulged in appetizers, and Dad warned them that they’ll be too full for the main courses if they continue eating.
“I’m gonna eat mine,” said Marie, but I told her that’s just what she’s thinking right now.
While we were there, I also jokingly told everyone that I know what Mew and Mewtwo are in Pokemon: a mule.
Brian and Marie were busy bickering with each other on the way home. I was sitting next to Marie, and I put my head in her lap. Marie kept telling Mom, “The idiot won’t get off of me,” and I kept telling Marie to say “The Poe won’t get off of me.” Mom asked me if I was talking about Po from Telletubbies, but Brian told her I was referring to a certain enemy from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
