First off, let me explain that this whole involvement of Nickelodeon is exactly the reason why the true version of Monster Collection Chronicles will have its own website, rather than be hosted on Fanfiction.net. Stuff will be modified for the FF.net version, so that readers have a choice whether to read it authentically or avoid anything that involves Nick.

A few years ago, for a short while, I would come home from school, with Marie being the only one already home and the TV turned on and set on Nickelodeon. After a few times this had happened, I asked Marie why the TV was even on when she wasn't watching anything, and why of all things it was on that particular channel. I think the answer to the first question had something to do with creating a lively atmosphere, instead of sitting in a silent house (don't quite remember). However, she answered the latter question that Nickelodeon does not advertise horror movies.

Needless to say, one should have no trouble seeing the irony behind that.

For the past several days, I've been viewing all kinds of good stuff on YouTube and elsewhere online, but most notably, there's a certain page on TV Tropes & Idioms, which part of this entry is named after. But, here's a few other things that are relevant to this post.

(DO NOT click the links or the lj-cut if you can't handle disturbing stuff like this! I'll tell you right now, we are not talking about anything lame like Are You Afraid of the Dark? or that stupid monster cartoon!)

1) The first in a series of gameplay videos for House of the Dead 2.
2) A deleted version of the final battle in Mother 3.
3) The background music to Stage 8 (the Alien Hive) in Contra IV.
4) A cutscene from Parasite Eve, of a rat suffering mutation.
5) A similar transformation from Parasite Eve 2, this time of something that took human form beforehand.

Y'know, stuff like this really turns me the fuck on! Remember when I brought up Nickelodeon last summer? Well, yeah! That's exactly what the second fic is all about: How to create something dark and edgy out of something that's normally comical or lighthearted in real life.

Now for the real shit!

Katsuo might do some horrifying stuff before and during the first fic in Monster Collection Chronicles, but compared to what's going to happen in the second fic, what he does is actually pretty benign.

Well, to start with, we've got the day that the World Trade Center collapsed. Uhh, yeah, that happened in real life, but that's just the beginning of it all in this story. More than a year later, in something that Columbine could not amount to, an entire mob of folks swarm into Longwood High School in New York City, taking students and faculty hostage left and right, planting bombs all around, with their main targets being the Mon Colle Knights. These people actually have no idea what they're doing, because they're acting under the mind control of Osama bin Laden. That's what comes when you participate on a gameshow at Nickelodeon Studios and get "slimed". The slime in question contains a psychic virus designed specifically to induce telepathic mind control. When the time was right, these people were instructed through telepathy to migrate to NYC while so many others left after 9/11/01, so they could carry out bin Laden's orders.

But wait, it gets worse still! Later on, bin Laden somehow makes his way to the Hiragi family's new home in New York, hijacks the Utopian Eagle with Mondo and Rockna's forced help, and proceeds to put them under his control by infecting them. Why did they comply? Because the two worlds have somehow been separated, there's someone in a teleporting mech on the loose, and if they die, Mon World is done for.

About the teleporting mech: It's called the Giygaslayer, and it's now piloted by Takeshi Okimichi, a young teenage boy who swears vengeance on Mondo and Rockna. It teleports, so you don't know where it will be from one moment to the next. And it has the power to destroy entire cities.

Worse yet, are bio-demons, creatures that spawn from the organic slime invented by bin Laden. When the slime is exposed to anything containing footage of any Nickelodeon show (and not just Nicktoons; there are Nick Jr., American cartoons bought from other TV channels, skits, commercials, and even acted shows), it creates a life form that will mutate into something genuinely scary-looking (hyperlinks #4 and 5). From there on, that lifeform's DNA is written into the slime, which can then morph into future duplicates of it. Life forms based on characters from life-like shows can assume the form of human beings to blend in with the general population, and then show their true form and strike when one least expects it (#5). Those lucky enough to survive an encounter with a bio-demon are infected the same way as being slimed, and can be mind-controlled by bin Laden; anyone not so lucky is ripped into pieces with claws, jaws, and tentacles. And to top it off, these hellspawn don't give off auras, which means even Rockna and McKnight cannot detect them with their sixth sense.

Well, the Supporting Knights eventually catch up with Mondo and Rockna, manage to disinfect them, but Takeshi comes along and teleports away with bin Laden... somewhere. Next mission: Raid Nickelodeon Studios, and expose Nick for what it really is. Guess what happens next?

Somewhere on the waters of New York City is an organic tower cloaked by some screens of invisibility. The Knights will soon be tackling that thing, but first, they must find the Monster Items that had been scattered throughout Mon World and Man World, and re-unite the two worlds. Where they are, there are also bio-demons roaming around, and the Knights must also fight their way through these beasts and save anyone they come across (Hyperlink #1). Then, return to NYC, and break into the Nickelodeon Base as it releases slime and hellspawn all over the place and spreads its roots throughout the city.

Here's your standard Womb Level (Hyperlink #3). The only way out would be by being summoned by McKnight... if only Takeshi hadn't assassinated him and Rockna's parents. On top of that and Takeshi now joining the fight, bin Laden is no longer human. He shattered the Giygas Crystal that he carried, and it released its energy, causing him to mutate while Takeshi was protected form its power inside the Giygaslayer. That's what caused such a massive outbreak in New York City!

The Knights fight the two villains and hordes of bio-demons that were summoned inside the base, Kasumi eventually destroys the Giygaslayer, and the bin Laden causes a giant mouth on the ceiling to suck all but several of them up and chew them into pieces. Derek then unleashes a spell that spreads throughout Mon World and Man World, disinfecting all infected humans, killing all bio-demons, killing bin Laden, and destroying the Nickelodeon Base. However, he and whoever else survived bin Laden's final attack perish from being inside the base as it collapses.

Without the Knights to stand in his way, Katsuo then proceeds to slay the six gods of Mon World, and then brainwash the entire populations of the worlds to persecute summoners and other mystics. When the Mon Colle Knights are reborn, they will find themselves in a world that hates them.

So, where does Hyperlink #2 fit in? It could be a nightmare sequence re-enacting everything that happened during the present, explaining how things came to be the way they are. Complete with red-and-black light; footage from Nickelodeon shows with the voices, image, and sound "mutating"; images of seemingly innocent nickelodeon characters transforming into the grotesque beasts that they really are; and situations where each of the Knights find themselves and other people in places overrun by bio-demons, who proceed to rip out their innocent victims' throats, intestines, and spinal cords, and rip their bodies apart from the faces or chests. The Knights find themselves unable to help out, barely able to even save themselves from the endless onslaught.

Now what?

On a final note, the song that I linked to with #3... That could be the opening theme for this whole arc, if Monster Collection Chronicles were an actual sequel to Mon Colle Knights.

[This entry was initially f-locked. Chelle commented on it two days later, after I unlocked it and tipped her off.]

Derek then unleashes a spell that spreads throughout Mon World and Man World, disinfecting all infected humans, killing all bio-demons, killing bin Laden, and destroying the Nickelodeon Base.

With one single spell, one character does all that? Seriously, watch out for God Mode Stu. Also, watch out for plot holes : if one character has that much power, readers are gonna ask why the heck he didn't just use it right away.

I know what the idea is, but that doesn't have anything to do with what I remarked on being careful for Sueism and plot holes.

Ah, when put like that it makes sense as to why they do not use it earlier.
The point is more the Sueism element, don't play it as a "OMG Derek is so awesome for doing this, love him" thing, it's going to be in the way the character is written. It's very easy with self-inserts to fall to the Sue virus.

You could let it have some negative consequences like unbalancing some ecosystem or something else where the energy came from or require other people to help, or some type of training he needed to do beforehand, but still, a large part of that's just going to be in the way you approach writing the character.

Difficult to be specific since I don't know much about your writing style yet and perfect is a different thing for each author and each fandom (though the results can all be equally annoying). Take for example fake flaws, I've had one Suethor claim that her character was not perfect because of her arrogance, but she never treated the arrogance as a flaw.

In this case, what rung the bells is that the world is essentially going to be kinda saved by your self-insert specifically, which is already going to stand out since everything in the anime is achieved by cooperation. Hence, I called it out in hope of making you alert to not make him special in even more ways.
