Jan. 15th, 2010 08:49 amI've stopped playing Grandia III for more than the past few days. Thinking of continuing with Pokemon Ranger.
A downloading event for Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum is scheduled to take place for several weeks, starting on January 30. Being held at GameStop, and the prize is a Shiny Pichu, which could unlock something when traded onto HeartGold or SoulSilver. (And the dice decided that they will not learn any TMs or HMs upon pickup.)
Someone tell me, for the entire year of 2009, even though we have gotten three of the four downloadable key items for Platinum, the only Pokemon we were able to get were those that unlock secrets in Platinum or HGSS. Mind you, I am grateful that it was those that we got, and not just some random common ones, but Japan and South Korea both have had plenty of other hijinx to download during that past year. (I also understand that there are Poketch applications that you can download onto Platinum, and for the record, even Japan has yet to see these get released. However, I'd actually skip those so as to have one less app to wade through.)

Only two days ago, I tried to watch one of my Mon Colle Knights DVDs in my room, but the disk tray keeps opening and closing. I bought a new DVD player from a store called BundleCity for a total of $50.99, and it should arrive here on the 20th (provided the company is reputable). To bother getting the thing repaired would probably be just as expensive, or probably more so.
It did fix itself once not too long ago, but then it started doing it again. So, I unscrewed the top half of the frame, blew it with the air hose inside the garage, found some traces of some kind of wax (which I wiped off with a tissue), and tried starting it up in its slightly disassembled state. I still can't see what the problem is. It's still doing this, so at this point, it's best just to get rid of it. No point trying to sell it, because who would want something that behaves like that?
So, I screwed the top of the frame back on, and gave it a burial in the backyard. (Not exactly burning a bridge, because if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.) This thing doesn't deserve to get abandoned or smashed up with a sledgehammer. This was the DVD Player I bought when I finally found the entire Mon Colle Knights series on DVD at a site called CDJapan. Having watched the anime once again, after not being able to for two and a half years, was a truly epic moment in my life.
(The last thing that we would have watched on that thing, before opening up our VCR/DVD player hybrid for Christmas of 2007, would have been Boston Public. Only two things, though: One, the DVD player we previously had was put into my closet after we installed the new one. And two, that series would've been a Christmas gift for Grandma Barbara, who also happens to like it, if only DVDplanet hadn't turned out to be the scam that it is.)
Well anyway, even though I hardly ever do watch my MCK DVDs nowadays, and even though I prefer to watch anything I rent from Netflix in the living room, getting my own DVD player still makes sense. When I move out of this house, I'm not gonna be able to take Mom and Dad's DVD player with me. So, yeah.

Been looking into taking that Japanese class for the past few days. I'm unable to enter the Stonybrook class, but I am going to take tutoring sessions starting on the 30th, and then I might be able to take an actual class next fall at Suffolk.

(Before you click the lj-cut, let me begin by saying that I actually do feel somewhat guilty about writing something that will involve Nickelodeon. It is part of the reason why I took the plot synopses for Monster Collection Chronicles down in 2005. However, this is also the reason why I am going to host the true version of MCC on its own site, while hosting an alternate version on Fanfiction.net and DeviantArt.)
I did write a privatized entry about this, which I will unlock if I ever see fit. But, for the past few days, I've been pretty addicted to TV Tropes & Idioms' page for Nightmare Fuel (especially the "High Octane" variety). Well, yeah. That's exactly what Nickelodeon is in the second fic in Monster Collection Chronicles: Something as innocent and harmless in real life as a kid-oriented TV channel, is in the fic, something potentially apocalyptic, created by Osama bin Laden, and nothing related to it looks anything like in their show of origin as they would in person. The currently privatized blog entry contains an lj-cut describing how things only get worse and worse for the world, and I also included links to stuff similar to what would happen in the fic.
Want an idea of what these bastards are really like? Check out clips from Dead Space, be it the animated movie or the video game. I've watched some clips of that just last night. Thankfully for our heroes in MCC, bin Laden's abominations stay dead when killed, but more of them spawn from living, growing green slime that can only truly be exterminated with a spell that only Derek knows. No place is truly safe until the worlds are cleansed at the end of the fic.
Another thing I couldn't stop viewing? The BGM in a deleted version of the final battle in Mother 3. That song could easily go with a nightmare sequence that each of the Knights might have at the beginning of the third fic, re-enacting the events of the present to explain how the world ended up as it now is. Watch (or listen to) it here... if you dare.

To be fair, though, as much as I like scary shit like this and thinking about what something would look like in MCC, there actually are some things that I can't look at for more than a split-second. There were pages where I had to hold a notebook in front of the screen before scrolling down. Most notably, though, look at the Japanese cover art for Contra III: The Alien Wars (known there as Contra Spirits; also viewable through certain YouTube MP3s). That's Red Falcon, the game's main villain, and it creeps me the fuck out even more than it does on the American box art or in the actual game. But even then, I'd rather catch a glimpse of that than anything from Nickelodeon!
Well, I think I'll have to ask Dr. Perret next time I see him, why I can look at plenty of hardcore stuff, but not some.

This comment serves absolutely no purpose.

Date: 2019-07-14 11:16 am (UTC)The lj-cut there is pretty much a summary of what goes on during the second fic, which you claim I already showed you before. However, if you do read it and decide to click on any of the hyperlinks, you might understand how they relate.
