Had my appointment at VESID yesterday. Not much to say about it.

Not sure if I'm gonna continue playing Dark Cloud 2. Previously, I took a break from it because it was getting too easy and repetitive. Right now, where I am, the game is hard enough to aggravate the fuck out of me. The enemies in Zelmite Mine are strong enough to take you out with just two hits, and frankly, I'm glad at least it's not so hard as the Demon Shaft from the first game, where anything takes a million hits to kill. Yeah, maybe that's because I used my Level-Up Powders to upgrade my weapons before taking out the last main boss, instead of towards the very end of the game.

But anyway, I think I'm gonna have a break from this game. On any given level, I could spend hours trying to get one medal, resetting each time either Max or Monica gets killed or whenever I fail to fulfill the prerequisite for said medal. I've been getting up as early as 4:00 A.M. just to get some time in with the game, it's the first thing I do each morning, it's a distraction from something else that I should be doing for Jake, and Mom and Dad have also complained just last night about my habit of groaning like an old man, which is probably from a loss of sleep and exercise.

Well, it's only a couple of days now until Pichu can be downloaded at GameStop onto Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. With that amount of time left, maybe I'll pass it by digging for treasure underground in Diamond.

Looked online for tips on how to cut video files into smaller segments. As it turns out, someone else also failed to do this with Windows Movie Maker, because the file was too large for it. Thought I might use my laptop to download TrakAxPC, but like with a lot of software, this has a limited free trial. With that said, it's probably best to wait until I upload my taped MMZ footage onto our computer and have some footage of MM2 to upload before I go through with this. That way, I can take care of those two things and the Makendou OAV in just the time that I could use the program for free.

Well, I took out that device I bought last year that's supposed to upload VHS content to a computer, and it turns out that the instructions are missing. That means Brian must have misplaced them or something with them when I gave him the whole thing to look at last summer.

In any case, though, I think it might be best to wait until Brian comes home for Spring Break. I remember using that thing last year, and as a result, our email started to take more than a minute to download. Good thing that was the extent of what went wrong.

Started to have a look at my Japanese books, and it turns out that instead of starting with basic grammatical stuff, we're already getting into stuff like occupations and nationalities. This should come later in the course. The Japanese in Mangaland trilogy did include cultural stuff and things like how to communicate emergencies, but not right from the start. Similarly, I started taking Spanish in 8th grade, but started with stuff like greetings, telling time, etc.; learning how to communicate at a hotel didn't come until some point in 10th grade.

I almost decided that I would forgo the class that I'm about to take, because I was already aggravated about my game and my VCR/PC connector. Logically, though, there's really no reason not to take it. That was all that's available, and I've got more free time than ever now that I'm officially done with college.

So, I showed the book to Mom when she came home, and she told me that it wouldn't be practical to spend year after year taking classes on how to speak the language. She said that there's a difference in learning out of a book and learning how to actually communicate, and that an even more efficient way to learn the language would be to live in the respective country.

(Now that I think of it, I remember in an episode of The Simpsons, Bart was sent to France without being able to speak any French whatsoever. After a while of being there, though, he learned enough to speak to a cop and report two guys who enslaved and tried to kill him.)
