Spent a considerable amount of time reading stuff on TV Tropes & Idioms yesterday, and came across such industry-related articles as No Export for You and Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Now, I was already told more than a year ago that a lot of companies aren't willing to license their titles if they find it much more profitable to hang onto it and release it on their own later. However, the page for No Export For You explains multiple reasons why licensing anything (especially in Japan) for international release is complicated. My god, is it a lot harder than I would've ever imagined.

Now, with the other page in question, Keep Circulating the Tapes deals with stuff that never does get released for an indefinite amount of time. One of the most notable anime examples of this happens to be Sailor Moon. It is no secret that Toei refused to air or release that series' fifth season. However, just to spite us all, it refused to even license the series to other American companies that have expressed interest in it, and never even specified why they would hold onto something they don't intend to actually profit from. (I did found out, though, that that series had gotten a full rebroadcast in Japan in 2009, had been licensed to Intertrack in Mexico, and is going to get a second chance in Italy, which if successful, might lead to it being aired again in other countries.)

Well, yeah, I've taken a handful of economics and business classes while I was at Dowling, but hardly learned anything from them. However, having a Bachelor's degree should enable me to get a job in an anime or video game translation company, where I can really learn about how this whole thing works before deciding if Retro Savior is even worthwhile. To quote something I once read:

I read, and I forget.
I see, and I remember.
I do, and I understand.

If I decide that Retro Savior isn't a worthwhile goal to pursue, I might continue making more fandubs after I complete the planned one for the Makendou series. As far as text translations go, though, I would like to translate Getter Love!! at the very least. That game has an unpredictable script (especially when you consider the unpredictable nature of Wadai Topics), and more importantly, has a glitch in the only working ROM dump we currently have.

(Yeah, I still have yet to ask around how I might go on about uploading a better ROM dump for that game.)

Minor note : I assume Makendo example on the Tape page was added by you? It's a bit blatant you're advertising your translation project. Anyway, if you look up from what you wrote, you can see this written :

IMPORTANT NOTICE: When posting a show, if you know where the show can be illegally obtained, don't post it. Just say that copies exist out there on the internet, and leave it at that. (We can expect there could be some people from the video industry reading this, and if they know precisely where a bootleg is, they can have it taken down, with trivial ease.)

So don't tell them where you're going to host it.

When you write here, it is a common practice not to "inject" yourself into the entry. "I" and "this troper" in the main body of the trope/description will get stomped pretty quickly. It is not about you, it is about the trope. Naturally, in discussions this doesn't apply.

A similar thing is said on the login-screen before you "get known".

Also, it's considered good form to add new examples to the bottom of the trope list, not the top, since most people look at the bottom anyway for new additions. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GoodStyle)
