dmxratedWent to GameStop yesterday, and it turns out that the player's guide that was supposed to come out yesterday has been rescheduled for the 21st. The clerk let me reserve it for $5, and said he'd call me if it comes earlier.
While I was there, I was at least able to use their demo DS to trade Pichu and Jigglypuff from Diamond onto SoulSilver, in exchange for two spare Pikachu that I obtained from Yellow Forest. So, there's something to ensure I didn't waste my time going there.
