Apr. 22nd, 2010 07:47 amReceived disk 1 of Elfen Lied yesterday. I was also expecting to receive disk 3 of The World of Narue, until I got an email the night before, saying that I was to instead receive disk 2 of this show called Breaking Bad. At first, I thought Mom went into my Netflix account (which she also uses to rent DVDs), and confronted her about it. She said that for everything she and Dad do for me, to share my Netflix account is just one thing I could do for them.
As it turns out, though, The World of Narue is currently out, so everything's win-win.

Dad brought home Turkish Takeout last night, to celebrate Marie's time home. Marie, however, couldn't eat the meat because of her illness, so Mom made her some tortellini instead.
Mom and Dad drove Marie back to Brooklyn last night.

Just the other day, Mom asked me what exactly I count when I'm playing Pokemon games, since I do tend to count aloud. That could be one of several things.
First, there's deciding which items to equip with any given Pokemon. How many items and which ones depend on the Pokemon itself, the Pokemon's moves, its types, etc.
For example, there are things like the Quick Claw, which has half a chance each turn of letting the holder go first. Just about any Pokemon can hold this.
Then, there are Everstones, which prevent the holder from evolving. This is good because when most Pokemon evolve, they learn moves later than in their pre-evolved forms, or in some cases, learn a different set of moves. However, this is useless with something that either cannot evolve or should be evolved as soon as possible anyway.
Then, there are things like Charcoal, Mystic Water, Hard Stones, Silver Powder, and elemental plates, which increase the power of any moves of its respective type. Useless to equip with Pokemon that have no moves of the correct type.
And finally, there are berries. Oran and Sitrus Berries recover HP when the holder's HP dips below half its maximum, so they're good with all Pokemon. Rawst and Aspear Berries can only cure Burn and Frozen status respectively, so they're useless with Fire- and Ice-type Pokemon respectively. Then we have berries which halve the amount of damage caused by super-effective moves. For example, Occa Berries halve the damage of one Fire-type move when eaten by a Grass-, Ice-, Bug-, or Steel-type Pokemon, because Fire is super-effective against Pokemon of those types.
-----
Separate from all of the above is deciding which Berries to plant when you've got empty patches of soil or empty berry pots. The chance of planting any given berry is inverse to how many berries of that variety I have. For example, if I have one Oran Berry and two Pecha Berries, the Oran Berry has two thirds of a chance of being planted, and one of the Pecha Berries has the remaining third of a chance. Typically, though, because berries tend to multiply, the denominator ends up becoming 360, and the chances of any given berry being planted becomes the number of berries of that variety, rounded to the nearest factor of 360, multiplied by how many times it goes into 360. So, if I have 11 Pecha Berries, that gets rounded to 10, which means that a Pecha berry gets 36 counts in the total.
As it turns out, though, The World of Narue is currently out, so everything's win-win.

Date: 2019-07-14 12:36 pm (UTC)Elfen Lied : prepare for lots of unrealistic gore and unrealistic response to maiming and if you make it to the final disk, an epic tearjerker ending. Also, don't take any of the psychology too serious (the reason they keep spelling out everything is so you never think and realize it doesn't make much sense;) and contrived coincidences ^_^.
The World of Narue : Is this recommended?
