Received: Lucky Star, disk 5
Also saw a UPS truck stop at the end of our driveway yesterday. I came over to it to retrieve whatever the man had for us, and it turns out that he had two packages, so I carried one of them to the house for him. Both of them were for Dad, so I still have yet to receive my Super NES back.

Turns out that, starting with Gen IV, Caterpie, Weedle, and Wurmple learn Bug Bite at levels 15-16 if kept unevolved. If I had known this earlier, I would have prevented them from evolving until then. (For that matter, I also learned once that Metapod, Kakuna, Silcoon, Cascoon, and Shellgon can all learn Iron Defense through tutoring, while their evolved and pre-evolved forms can't. No big deal there, though, since that can only be tutored at the Gen IV Battle Frontier.)
Anyway, took on the Bug-Catching Contest yesterday morning, and eventually found a shiny Caterpie. I was looking mainly for Butterfree, since you normally get more points for them than for its pre-evolutions, but the player's guide says that you get bonus points if the Pokemon you capture is shiny. In any case, there is no contest when it comes to catching shinies; those are way too valuable to just pass up.
What's even better, is that the Caterpie was at Level 16, which would mean that it already knows Bug Bite. That should make up for having missed out on that move all along.

Moving on, I made four mistakes in a row upon tackling the Ice Path. First, I made two spaces in my party, so as to capture Swinub and Delibird with Heal Balls. After capturing the former, I went back to Mahogany Town (using an Escape Rope, no less), because I forgot that I need a Pokemon that knows Strength in order to make it all the way through. So, I evolved Totodile to teach it Strength. Went back into the Ice Path, found out that Waterfall was hardly aways from where I captured Swinub and then, figuring I might as well take on Blackbelt Kiyo in Mt. Mortar as long as I'm still in the vicinity, taught Goldeen HM Waterfall. Set foot into Mt. Mortar, and then realized the hard way that I need the Rising Badge from Blackthorn City to use Waterfall. Rearranged my party, left one space for Delibird, and went back into the Ice Path. Took about three or four Heal Balls to capture one, and then I spent the rest of the trip through using Super Repels, making the whole thing a moot point. I realized then that Heal Balls should be saved for places populated by Trainers, which there were none in Ice Path.
This whole ordeal should be a reminder of something not to do a second time when I get to the same spot in Pokemon HeartGold. On the plus side, making room for Delibird allowed me to teach it HM Fly from the get-go, which I do automatically because it can't learn any moves on its own. (Though, yeah, I could have used a different kind of ball on it.

Had the Move Maniac teach my Notch-Eared Pichu Nasty Plot once I reached Blackthorn City. A good opportunity to do so, because I had a Heart Scale from the PokeWalker. That Pokemon automatically won because it can't learn any new moves on its own.
