dmxratedHitched a bus to the hospital yesterday, because Mom had to take me to see Dr. Perret later on. For lunch, I had some pieces of fried chicken, rice, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, a biscuit, and some smore pie. I wasn't really in the mood for pizza, after having had that for lunch every single day I went to my internship, but I should have known better than to load right up. I wasn't able to finish it all, and even the smore pie was... meh. (Hence why I'm not using Kagami today.)
Anyway, today's session w/ Dr. Perret completely involved my issues about having gone to Dowling. I showed him everything I wrote down in my notebook since last session, and he wrote some comments when he started reading the lists that Mom had me write down several days ago.
Main issue, though, which I asked Mom on the way home: Why do Associate's Degrees even exist if they're only good towards anything one can get with a high school diploma? Mom told me that, unlike with Brian and Marie, she and Dad weren't sure if I was actually cut out for college due to my disability. Regular colleges cost $40,000 to send one's kids to; it only costed her $1,500 to send me to Suffolk, and if I wasn't able to do it, she at least wouldn't have lost nearly as much money in the deal. Also, schools like Cornell and Simmons, in fact, don't issue Associate's Degrees in the first place.
I guess that clears things up once and for all. Though, I did read in Melissa's blog that, after the sheer amount of trouble she had in school last spring, she actually was able to take just two or three classes for this fall. (Way to go, Mel!)

Date: 2010-11-05 02:59 am (UTC)About Associates degrees... there are some jobs where they only require a two year education for you to move up in the company. They're typically jobs where they don't even care WHAT the degree is in, they just want you to have the extra education for some reason. And like you said, doing an Associates first is good because it saves you money at a community college. :)
