Well, Jake has expressed interest this morning in a list of whose hair I like and whose I don't like so much. Before I get started, though, here's one thing I'd like to say (to anyone who doesn't know or has forgotten):

With canon characters, only generic hairstyles are acceptable for hair transformation. Modeling the character's hair after an already existing character is out of the question; that is what original characters such as Hoshi are reserved for. With the "beehive" style, "generic" would be oval-shaped and symmetrical both vertically and horizontally. My pic of Usagi Tsukino, flawed as it is, would serve as an example (although I do wish I had put a dent between the top of her head and the base of her newly-formed hive).

Please also keep in mind that how big a character's hive gets depends on how long her hair was to start with.

And without further ado...

Marge Simpson: By far, my least favorite form of hair in its updone state. However, worth noting is a particular episode of her show, which shows her and Homer's teen years, back when her hair flowed down most of the time. Never knew the episode's title, but it was the one where she dumped Homer for Arty to dance with at the Senior Prom, before dumping Arty after he molests her in the car.

So, while I'm not at all fond of her do in particular, the episode does depict her hair flipping up in an instant to how it looks in the show's present. Don't remember what caused it, but she obviously didn't mind at all. However, do note that its length back then was equal to its current height, which I'm aware would be impossible without some kind of artifact.

Magezin Zin-Zin: A French children's book which involves bonnets laying eggs in the giant updone hair of aristocratic women. Chelle showed me a page from it, but the pic didn't really interest me at all. Not sure whether it was the shape of their hair, the overly lifelike art style, or whatever, but in any case, here's what she showed me:

Pretty hairstyle. Elegant as her hair and dress both are, though, I don't really care for the dress that much, probably because of the shape of the neckline.

Trolley Dollies: A video I saw on DeviantArt some months ago. While the video itself sucks (in my own opinion), the beehive-haired stewardesses come across as somewhat attractive to me. Actually, though, I don't even remember the last time I thought about them (if I ever did), but here's a pic of what they all look like (and yes, they are clones of one another):

Jirachi (Pokemon) and Sarah (a cosplaying OC): The former is an interesting case, because one, he's male, two, he isn't human, and three, his "hair" is actually some kind of crown or whatever.

"Hi there, cute little moeblob!"

(There is another character out there who, canonically, has a similar hairstyle to Jirachi. Let's not speak of her, okay? That is exactly why I invented Hoshi, a teenage non-glasses brunette who would be embarrassed about her hair transformation.)

Now let's talk about Sarah. First, here's a link (and ignore the name "Kendra"; "Sarah" was the name I picked up when I saw the same sprite on the Bulbagarden Forum).

So, three large spikes across the head, with a tag on each of the tips. If this were artificial, then it's obviously nothing for her to be embarrassed about. Even if it were her actual hair, the Pokemon universe is full of unrealistic hairstyles, and given especially how much it resembles a certain Pokemon, it still probably wouldn't be that humiliating to her. However, I still do enjoy actively fantasizing about her, though I have no idea what to do with her.

(On a side note, notice how much her clothes resemble those of Rokuna. Yeah, there are some minor differences, such as with the belt and the feet, but I'm not sure how much that will avert any image of Rokuna having Jirachi-like hair. Doesn't stop me from thinking about Sarah whenever I get the whim, though.)

Edel (Princess Tutu): Referred to last post. I've seen screenshots of her with her hair updone even as a child. Pretty hairstyle, but no embarrassment to be had by her about it. (If you'd like to know, though, I'm the one who added "Beehive Hairdo" to the show's TV Tropes page, even though it's arguable whether her's can actually be considered a beehive.)

-----

As you can infer if you read the above cut, no embarrassment to be had by anyone listed (unless you count Hoshi, mentioned in a sidenote under Jirachi/Sarah). I'm not gonna try to name as many examples as I can think of; just the ones worth noting for some reason or another. I also already mentioned last post the concept of hair transformations and non-canon possibility of girls re-styling their hair by choice in their adulthood, first in one of the later paragraphs, and second in the fourth comment down.

Another thing I should have compared this whole thing to would be my tastes in music. With that, I've had everything figured out ages ago: I mostly like exciting songs from video games (listed in my User Info), but there are a handful of non-VG songs that are just as exciting. I do enjoy some ambient songs from games (emphasis on some), but I can't say the same for anything that's comical.

So, even though there are exceptions to that, what I like is pretty much established. Such is not quite the case with my tastes in female hairstyles, though Chelle did say that that gets decided by one's subconscious and thus isn't always logical.

Art style could possibly play a role as well.
