Dec. 10th, 2010 06:31 pmJust chatted with Jake a short while ago about Parasitic Trio. While I don't have such a negative opinion about Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, I really do find Silver and Crystal (I never got or played Gold) to be much more nostalgic than these two remakes. This is exactly the reverse of the Kanto games, in which I find the remakes (particularly LeafGreen) a lot more nostalgic than Red (the only Gen I game I ever played). In fact, when I finally do get around to writing Jamie's fic, I'm even gonna start with an author's note asking readers to visualize GSC instead of HGSS.
Well, as long as I'm on an updating spree with the outline, I might as well get this out of the way right now, so that new ideas can come to mind as I go along. Here is what I intend to incorporate in the ficseries from HGSS, and what can or will remain out of it:
TO BE INCLUDED:
-The PokeAthlon. Unless Jake can think of something different and just as intricate. Mainly, this is going to serve as Jamie's interlude between fighting the Johto Elite Four and traveling to Sinnoh, as well as to win "foreign" berries and other rare prizes.
-The PokeWalker. Dead serious about this one. Especially since the PAL Park exists in this ficseries to provide out-of-game stuff independently of past real-life events. (Jamie can win one of five secret routes on his Walker if he wins 3rd place or above in any PAL Park contest. If any of the mains win 1st place in the Water contest, then they can summon a Jirachi, whose main purpose is to unlock Night Sky's Edge on his Walker.)
-Lyra. One more girl on top of Marina for Jamie to be seen ***** by. Would prefer to keep her, but she is negotiable if Jake has that much of an aversion to her being in the ficseries (which he probably will).
-The Enigma Stone event. Only if any of the mains win whichever place in whichever PAL Park contest its reserved for, making this event extremely unlikely to happen.
-The Pichu event in Ilex Forest, but only if one of the mains win 1st place in the PAL Park's Fire contest.
-The Arceus event in Sinjoh Ruins, but only if one of the mains wins the highest total amount of points of anyone participating in the PAL Park competition.
-Celebi is also worth noting. Instead of providing an opportunity to fight Giovanni, I've been toying with the idea of whoever summons her taking her to Oblivia and traveling to the past there. However, it can only happen if any of the mains wins 1st place in the PAL Park's Life contest, making this event unlikely. (And yes, Jake also hates Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs, and if he comes up with a better idea of what to do with Celebi, then I'm open to his suggestions.)
AND NOT:
-The Rocket Executives, at Jake's direct request. In this ficseries, they're unnamed clones of each other, just like in GSC.
-Jamie, Jasmine, and other characters will retain the outfits that they wore in GSC.
-The Embedded Tower. Seriously, that was just an excuse to make Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza directly obtainable in the Gen IV games.
-With that said, I might also do away with the Johto Safari Zone, and subsequently, Routes 47 and 48.
-Most trees are back to providing berries.
-Just about everything that took place in Kanto, except for Jamie challenging Lt. Surge (which was always canon anyway) and the aforementioned possibility of the Enigma Stone event.
-The Kimono Girls are back to being minor characters that Jamie will fight during his first visit in Ecruteak City. (Ho-oh and Lugia simply await Jamie in their respective locations.)
-Suicune is fought in the Bell Tower, not on Route 25.
-No berry-planting. In fact, I don't even intend to involve this anywhere in the ficseries at all. All berries are shaken off of trees (mostly) or obtained by other means.
-For the most part, gym puzzles. That goes for all regions, because it makes the world seem to revolve around just the main characters. (Same reason why I'm doing away with planting berries.)
-EDIT: Just eliminated Lyra, at Jake's request.
With all that said, even though I prefer the GBC games over the remakes, I still do intend to play through HeartGold once I complete Diamond and Pokemon Battle Revolution. After that, there's still fun to be had with Platinum, and then I'll go back to playing one version per game with Black or White, whichever I get for my birthday. Whether I'll ever play Silver or not, I'm not sure, but even if I don't, all those other games should give me lots of time to continue plotting the details for Parasitic Trio.
