Aug. 4th, 2012 06:01 amWas told by both Jake and the owner of Makendou Central (whom I shared this blog with) that the Mega Man X series has ended properly, and that the ending of X6 actually takes place at some point between the end of the X series and the Elf Wars.
Here is Jake's explanation that he gave during a convo:
Eczel Strata says:
From what I understood, you're going to play only until X5?
DMXrated01 says:
Only until X6, since the two games after that create a plothole with Zero.
Eczel Strata says:
Except no.
They don't.
DMXrated01 says:
Well, there is the fact that Zero seals himself inside the capsule, which was supposed to be the one he's awakened from by Ciel, but then MMKB states that Word of God states that he sealed himself away *twice*.
Eczel Strata says:
Yeah, see, that's what 'retroactive continuity' means.
To be precise, originally, the series would end at X4. Then Inafune had to make X5. With X5, he tried to make the end clearer but at the cost of making it not easy (the ending you're most likely to get is the one where Zero *dies* even if you play as him).
Then while he was busy with Mega Man Zero they created X6. Which tried to address everything, but made the plot change and long story short, it means Inafune's original plans are gone.
Period.
X7 and X8 and Command Mission are canon and don't create plotholes of that kind. In fact, X8 serves as a way to truly kill Sigma, because the fact is that killing his body just won't do and he's proven to be immune to antiviruses.
So Zero seals himself, but off-screen.
Because of the big war between the two generations.
First he seals his old body to purge himself of the virus for real, but that doesn't work out, and then before the war ends, so he can finally die at last. That doesn't take either.
(Not all sites are helpful with understanding this series. For instance, TVT acts as if Zero had not found a reason to fight after X4 *all the way until* Zero 4.)
DMXrated01 says:
I see.
Will reconsider whether or not to return both games after all.
But, what's the deal with Sigma being dysfunctional for most of X6, and then back to normal from the end of that game onward?
Eczel Strata says:
Gate built a terrible body.
But well, let me get another answer...
DMXrated01 says:
I mean, how does he fully recover at the end of X6?
Eczel Strata says:
He dies, but he's a virus.
He could have infected a better body after it and transformed it into himself.
DMXrated01 says:
I see.
Eczel Strata says:
Yeah.
That all said, I decided not to return X7 and X8 after all. One thing's for sure, though, I do not intend to play the second Game Boy game or the Game Gear game. The former appeared under TV Tropes: So Bad It's Horrible (that ought to say something), and the latter is just a watered down combination of the second and fourth NES games.

Went to GameStop again before meeting Mom and Dad in the gym, and asked for the two Zone of the Enders PS2 games. They didn't have either, but the clerk did look up other stores for it. I asked him to also see if any have the remaining Mega Man games I'm looking for, and he gave me the phone number of the store in East Setauket.
Afterwards, while I was crossing the parking lot, this black guy on a bicycle came over to me and asked me if I'd be interested in any music CDs. I told him I don't listen to music that much, and he asked if I would donate anything to him. I gave him a dollar that I was carrying in change. I then told him my name, and he claimed that his was Voice. (Not sure whether that's his actual name or just to gain interest from people.)
Called that store when we got home, and they have all the Mega Man games, but neither of the ZoE games, although I could order The 2nd Runner on their online store. Mom and I agreed that she'll stop over there on her way home from work on Monday, and I'll pay her back.
